Bet yer bippy it does! On another forum, a fellow made a 12 pound Mt. Howitzer, full size, and used it to hunt Whitetail Deer! Got one, too! He used Grapeshot, and hit that Buck with 6 rounds at over 200 yds. There are threads and connections that are sometimes not visible when people write on this forum! BoomLover

Dose this discussion have anything to do with the purpose of this forum?
Sometimes we stray a little bit and DD reins us back in. Cannon shooting is great. So is mortarz.

Often we stray a little bit.  It's part of our building relationships rather than being overly restrictive.

When he off loads the combine and spills a pile of barley , it is in the stragegic spot where his black powder cannon is to be zeroed in on . When deer season starts , easy one shot kill with remote firing device ,  ;D
Now we are back on topic .  ;)

PS , We have over 1000 acres of Beer barley bait , in the bin  :>)

I don't buy beer any more.

When Sam Adams went up to 16 bucks a 12 pack earlier this year, I renewed my home-brewing hobby that has been absent since my 7 year old son was born.

So, I don't buy beer any more, but I do buy malted barley, and lots of it. I use about 100 pounds a month so, please do it good.

Is "Breiss" a customer of the farm you work at? That is one of the better US suppliers of malted product.

BTW, I do grow my own hops at least ;-) I just started another 10 plants in fact. Too bad the first year yield of hop plants is always low, as hops are almost as valuable as gold, silver and plywood now adays.

Yes, I am cheap, but none of this is saving me any money. I simply just have acquired a lot of new "friends" who enjoy my 8 tap keg-orator.

See? This is all related to cannons, in some strange way! It always gets back to it, a word here, a picture there. In fact, I used the word "cannons" in this little note, too! Twice! BoomLover

Well for us the barley harvest is over.  Was very interesting, hadn't ever done that before.  So next time you clean and wash your cannon and you pause for a sip of beer, your welcome.

That will get you LOTS of thanks!

SO, how many acres?  (or enough barley for how many beers?)

I was doing the job of the 16 year old kid, fetch and carry, run errands, fire watch, move, fuel and help repair equipment, shoot rabbits and porcupines, any little odd job that came up.  All well with in my skill levels.

Probably no powder bought with the proceeds of my work.

I toasted the electrics in my 25 year old out dated Jet lathe.  I can't find OEM parts, but the cumshaw substitutes go about $500.  I also need to get a new bench and drive belts for it.  Another $500 or so.  Discussed taking the money from our IRA with the wife and she said flat, NO.  What's going to break down on it next, buy a new lathe.  I learned a long time ago, when she gets her mind set, it does no good to argue with her.

So instead of using the harvest money for a powder and other frivolous goodies, I'll buy me a couch for my den and give her her leather couch back.  It's the least I can do.

Should have said you were having lathe problems when we were up there.
