THE CLUNKER CRAPPOLA.
« on: August 27, 2009, 05:11:19 PM »
The paper said that folks who bought vehicles under osamas plan are STILL driving their old vehicles. Dealers are holding their new purchases til the govt comes up with the promised money. Folks have paid for insurance, and loans for these vehicles with 1st payments almost due, and STILL can't get their new purchases. This has helped nobody I know. The only folks it helped were people who had money to buy anyway, certainly not me. POWDERMAN.  >:( >:(

There should be some really good, almost new cars up for sale at the banks before to long.

Just don't understand why someone who is down on their luck or out of work would want to trade in a car that was paid for that was getting X number of MPG and go in debt for a new one at the price of $20,000.00 to $30,000.00 that gets anywhere from 4 to 10 MPG more than their old one.
You can make a lot of repairs and buy a lot of gas for that kind of money and not be in debt doing it.

I have a hard time finding sympathy for most car dealers.  According to those who track auto sales, the price of new cars went up during the clunkers program four percent.  I am sure the dealers used kinder and gentler sales tactics, only 17% of buyers regretted the purchase after the fact.

I am sure this program will set records for Fraud, Waste, and Abuse from the auto industry, and games played some customers.

no one will buy another car for 6 months unless it is an emergency situtation so in the long run it is going to hurt the dealers and the auto industry in general.Your about to see an economic ride that will make the small dip we just had look just like a small dip. People are looking at wall street and asking why they are in the market when nothing has changed since the crash and they are starting to pull out and go to commoties. I heard that the $$ allowed "by the government" for their trades will be taxed as income by the feds.

Serves people right for buying korean and japanese cars with my tax dollars as down.   Probably the same people who put that creep in office last Nov.  There's a sucker born every minute as they say.

We had a dealer here in the Toledo area, on the news last week. Sold over 160 cars with that cash for clunkers deal. So far, he's only got paid for 2 of them by the govt. Got a feeling there is going to be alot of dealers waiting along tome for their cash.
And torpedoman is right, this is going to make a major bump in sales a few months from now. And the price of used cars went up, since the cars turned in are being destroyed. Another boondoggle the govt. is responsibe for. gypsyman

Most of those who have a used car worth less that $4500 if he sold it is not going to buy a bran new car and make all those payments. Not if he has any sense, anyhow. (He'd buy a good used car.)

So, in the main, this puts people who make poor financial decisions deeper in debt with the economy crashing.

Not saying it's a bad move for everyone, I can see how some people can benefit (like someone who just wrecked his car or his engine just failed), but I'd say few people can gain and most will lose.

All those that hail this glorified auto industry buy out are just putting a bandaid on the bail out problem. People getting rid of cars they can afford and buying cars they may loose to the banks while unemployed. Crushing affordable autos that alot of people need, also the trickle down affect it causes on repair shops, parts industry and transportation industry. My grandkids should not have to pay for stupid peoples perks today and anyone that praises these programs are complete idiots. This fruit we have in the White House is turning this country we love into a Roman Empire and too many idiots fail to see this. He is spending money like there is no tomorrow and tomorrow our offspring will go through hell.  >:(

He wants to run the health care dollars through the white house because he's out of cash....and credit.  It has nothing to do with providing health care to the uninsured.  It's another friggen socialist commie scam.

The only way I could see it of value to me would be if Matt had not already scrapped out the red car and the black one he had out here covered in vines taking up space on my little farm. I don't think I'd want to turn loose of the '86 F150 with blown engine in such manner but then it really is Matt's these days since he did pay me for it even if he didn't ever change the title over to his name before blowing the engine FOR THE SECOND TIME I might add. What he paid me for it barely covered the cost of repairing it from the first time he ruined the engine. Still it's got a sound body and transmission and is a 4x4.

It's just one more STUPID dumocrap socialist idea with no worth to it.

Hey, lets just remember that while the Obamanation might be the one in charge of these stupid ideas, he can't do it by himself--yet.  The totally inept Congress is really the responsible entity and I'm afraid that it isn't just the left side of the aisle that's gone off the rails.

Don't get me wrong, though; I have no problem blaming the halfrican for all the simple minded crap that is coming down the road, but I hate to let the other dumbasses off the hook.

That's pretty shady. So it's actually the $2250 rebate, unless it puts you in a higher bracket, in which case it might actually cost you money.

Just another waist of the tax payers money. What a half azz, half baked BS Liberal program. What business does the government have in this area? More redistribution of wealth (stealing). The people running this country are nothing more than common criminals. The reality is, it likly will harm the environment more then it will help. But who's counting & accounting anyway.

Only the ones who's state taxes federal rebates as income.

The rebate is not federal taxed income.  The only tax that most people will pay is state and local sales tax on the full amount of the car.  The $4500 is not sales tax exempt.

This program didn't help the poor at all.  It only helped those who were going to buy a new car anyways and who had GOOD CREDIT.  It also took perfectly good used cars out of the market for the poor who usually only can afford a used car anyways.  Dumb program, especially required the perfectly good cars to be scrapped.  Leaving them alone would have supplied a lot of good used cars to choose from and real clunkers would have been traded in on them or scrapped anyways.

100% accurate. As you said, it will hurt those less capable of buying a new car. Thanks to the Liberals and big government, we have another program that waisted tax payer money and hurts lower income people. What a screwed up country!

TITLE XIII--CONSUMER ASSISTANCE TO RECYCLE AND SAVE PROGRAM
Sec. 1302. Consumer Assistance to Recycle and Save Program-
(h)Exclusion of Vouchers From Income
(2)FOR PURPOSES OF TAXATION- A voucher issued under the program or any payment made for such a voucher pursuant to subsection (a)(3) shall not be considered as gross income of the purchaser of a vehicle for purposes of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.

There is a copy and paste of the tax law from cars.gov.  If you got a new car under this program, be sure not to use "the radio" to fill out your 1040 next spring!

Some states, such as Alabama, if you recieve an income tax refund for 2008 in 2009, it is considered income in 2009 and must be reported as such.  Same with Federal rebates, etc.  You have to pay state income tax on the amount. It will probably also be considered income in next years Federal tax also since it is a value.
