Flags at half staff in your area?
« on: August 29, 2009, 02:47:51 AM »
I noticed that a lot of flags are flying at half staff around here. I was surprised to learn that it's because of Ted Kennedy died. Why in God's name would it be appropriate for somebody like that to have flags at half staff for him? He was just a drunk with an aptitude for getting Federal money into Massachusetts, and taking away the rights and privileges of the people who supplied that money from around the country. This hardly qualifies for the heroic status implied by the honor of having the flag flown at half staff in ones memory.

It's very insulting.

I hadn't noticed and if I had, I wouldn't give it any thought whatsoever.  As far as I'm concerned, all flags should continue to be flown at half-staff, or not at all as long as the commie occupies the White House.

Like the man or not is not the issue , the flags were lowered as a sign of respect for the office he held , a sitting US Senator , as with Obama , you don't have to like the man BUT as an American you need to respect the office he holds !

Not that I noticed in my area...'course I live in a very conservative area. There are some 500 odd in the house of representatives an an even hundred in the senate, not to mention the many retired. If we flew the flag at  half staff every time one of them cashed in, it would rarely be up in place.
IMO: Combat veterans deserve just as much respect, and in some cases much more than most politicians..so let's not get started that way.

I'm more for flying them upside down.

Although I have to say Ted the turd dying is the best news I have heard in a long time.

And Stimply, in the 42 years of my life I have lost all respect for the office and all who have held it.

I partially agree with billy, flying the flag upside down denotes distress, is this country not in distress? :-[

I've seen a bunch of flags at half-mast in my neck of the woods also.  Personally, I think it's a bigger tragedy that he's buried at Arlington.  >:(

It's a good thing they didn't plant Kennedy at the National Cemetery in Barnstable, MA where my father is laid to rest... Dad probably would have gotten up and left.  :o

I was telling my wife that as much as I hate funerals, if it were practical for me to attend Teddy's, or even visit his grave, I believe I would do it--just for the chance to piss on his dead body,or his grave.

Didn't they have to do an environmental impact assessment at Arlington before they could bury him?

It is appalling that this peice of human waste is being buried in Arlington. THey should dump his body in a manure pit let it decompose then he can finally do some good for the world by fertilizing it.

Here in lies the problem , the man ( like him or not ) was electied for more than one term by someone , those people may not agree with your way of thinking any more than you agree with theirs , the fact still remains that he was a sitting US Sen. and the office does deserve the respect that our founding fathers intended it to have .

The fact that we all do not have to agree with each other is one of the most important things that make this country great .

If big head ted was alive in 1775-6 he would have fought against the colonists.   I think he's obama's uncle.

STIMPYLU. I see your point, but he did nothing for real Americans, just his own little clique  in his home state. He was for everything Christians abhor, and for some of the vilest things that could ever be. Sorry dude, he gets no respect from me. POWDERMAN.  :o :o

I have no love for the man's history, but I do not denigrate people that I don't agree with.

My question is, "why is he being buried in Arlington?"  I assume that there is some reason other than his last name.  He wasn't active duty, he didn't retire from service, Joseph Kennedy isn't buried there.....

So he is buried there because of his pay grade?

Seems to be a trend lately to dip the flag far too often.  We keep lowering it every time someone from Washington dies and it seems like it is never flown at the top anymore. I wrote a complaint once because some park service employee had died and they had lowered all their flags. It ain't supposed to work that way. I've also criticised that bunch because at one of the parks near the Mex boarder they had the American flag and the Mexican flag flying at the same height

You are absolutely right. Remember during the peak of the Iraq war that the flag was at half staff almost all of the time? Manipulation.

After he was booted from harvard for cheating, I think he served 16 months as a private in the Army stationed in Europe during the Korean Conflict.

family made sure he stayed out of combat.

therefore they are pulling the Veteran card.  :-\
