'Dry firing' a Browning B78 High Wall ??

Hi, could someone please verify whether or not 'dry firing' a B78 harms the firing pin mechanism etc. Thanks for any input. Ross.

A Snap Cap is money well spent on a quality rifle like yours. If it were a couple hundred dollar rifle then take your chances

It should be fine. But as others have said, why do it with out a snap cap?

I posted up a way to make your own some time back... Drill the primer pocket out with a 1/4" drill. Tap it 1/4-20 and screw in a NYLON bolt made for licence plates and cut it off flush. WALLA, you have a home build snap cap!!!

I have put a pencil eraser in an empty primer pocker for a make shift snap cap. I just do not trust it for repeated dry firing

Cwlongshot, I've actualy made up a 'dummy' cartridge using a piece of nylon, sourced from a tap washer, inserted in the primer pocket for the purpose of trial firing my beautiful old B78. However, I was simply wondering if the mechanism was purposely designed to be 'safely' dry fired. Thanks for everyone's input. Ross.

I don't think it will harm it but it won't do it any good either.  I have several hi walls and I just cut a piece of rubber about 1/4" thick to fit between the hammer and the firing pin just insert it when I want to dry fire.  I have a string tied to it and tied to the triggerguard so I don't lose it.
