1/2 scale Parrott
« on: August 30, 2009, 02:44:23 PM »
I am just about finished with the carriage I built for Dom's barrel. I'm hoping to take it out and test fire it soon. I have just a few details to finish up and it will be done. I know it is not an exact replica but I'm happy with it.

Very nice looking gun!  You did a fine job.  What are you thinking of shooting?  That looks a lot like southern Colorado or New Mexico.  Are you one of our neighbors?

SFSO04,

Nicely done! DD and M&T have asked the only questions I had.

Thanks for the compliments and to answer some questions. Double D I did not build the wheels they are the R&P 30 inch cannon wheels. Tracy & Mike I live in the mountains east of Albuquerque and work as a Captain for the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office, hence The SFSO04.

Hey you, M&T, Blaster and Rocklock are practically neighbors.

Tell us your opinion on the R&P Trading wheels.  Well made? Worth the money?  Good/bad customer service?

I think the wheels are what stop people from making more field carriages.   I have made two sets, and they weren't that simple. That might have been easier if I had better(any) wood working skills.

I am not skilled enough to make my own wheels. The R & P wheels seem to be good, I only had a couple of problems that were easily fixed. First the small nails used to hold on some of the metal around the hub kept falling out. Could have been our dry climate, I just replaced them with small round headed screws. Also they used a piece of 1/2 inch pipe though the hub to support the axle. They were cut to short, not cut square on the ends and beat out of round. I replaced them tubing which worked out good. When you consider shipping they cost close to $400.00 for the pair, and they shipped fast with an email to me when they shipped. Next I will see how they hold up to firing. My wife has a couple of minature horse so I'm considering building a limber next and making them earn their keep.
