Is hunting season coming?
« on: August 30, 2009, 05:12:29 PM »
Been working in the grain harvest and living in the travel trailer... been seeing deer and antelope.

Last week while working the field I saw two Antelope battling it out for the females.  One Buck chased the interloper off a mile northeast  and made a sudden lunge and knock the interloper down. Then he turned around and ran off and away from his harem to the nortwest.  The interloper buck got up and started following the herd buck. They ran a good mile further north to the border road.  The Herd buck circled back towards his harem about a mile and a half south.  The interloper buck followed.  They both ran about 30 yards away from the guys working a combine in the neighboring field.

The herd buck got back to the herd and laid down.  The interloper buck stopped a couple hundred yards and started sneaking up a weed line.  When the interloper got about 100 yards off the herd buck jumped and chased the interloper off to the west about a mile.

This went on all afternoon.  The females just lounged around all afternoon and didn't do anything....typical.

It is Antelope Archery Season right now!

Cutbank is sure a shorter run to get to than across to Chester, to hunt the Marias River area.  ::)

I'm chomping at the bit to go out looking for grouse in the morning with my Ruger Single-Six. It don't take much to make me happy!  ;D

Nope I don't think so. I heard it was called off this year due to lack of interest.  :o

Not comin fast enough, that's for sure!  Was up at my cabin north of Winnett this last weekend and heard a bull Elk whistle most of the night.  Thought it was a bit early for the lower elevation Elk, but sure brought a smile to my face.  DP

Block management signs going up all over in places that always were difficult to get access to.  Never seen many deer in the one place, but always lots of local boy hunters driving the coulee's in their P/U.  F&G is supposed monitor theses things on the BM lands...yep it's coming!!!

No deer or elk today, but with grouse around I'm not complaining! Here was the first of the day I shot using a 1969 68# Bear Kodiak Hunter.
