Ted Kennedy's wife good fit for Senate seat, say pols
« on: August 31, 2009, 12:51:13 AM »

Vicki Kennedy should be considered as a potential interim replacement for her late husband in the U.S. Senate, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle said Sunday.

"I think Vicki ought to be considered," Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-Utah) said on CNN's "State of the Union."

"She's a very brilliant lawyer. She's a very solid individual," Hatch said of Sen. Edward Kennedy's widow. "She certainly made a difference in Ted's life, let me tell you. And I have nothing but great respect for her."

Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.), a close friend of Ted Kennedy, said he too would be supportive of Vicki Kennedy if she wanted the job. So far, she's told friends she's not interested.

"She's expressed to me her own sort of reluctance to do that, but she could change her mind," Dodd said. "If she did, I'm for it."

"She'd be great," Dodd added. "She brings talent and ability to it, and to fill that spot I think is something the people of Massachusetts would welcome."

Current state law in Massachusetts requires the seat remain vacant for roughly five months until a special election is held.

Ted Kennedy wrote to state leaders this month requesting that the law be changed to allow full representation during the ongoing debate over health care reform.

Gov. Deval Patrick, a Democrat, has voiced support for a change in the succession law.

Momentum appears to be building around the proposal, especially because the health care overhaul could be determined by a razor-thin margin.

Like any other non-politician suddenly holding political office, she'd be an excellent puppet for whoever is able to gain the most influence on her.

Does this mean that they changed the law requiring a special election to elect the replacement? If not, does the concept of an interim senator mean that the interim can be a period of years, thereby circumventing the law?

  Hey guys;
Have some pity..not all here are libs. Libs are located in the big cities, which unfortunately have more votes than the other 95% of the land area of each state.. :-X

Of course, that huge urban vote will probably put another Socialist in the driver's seat. :P

Ironglow, I know what you mean.  I think there is something in the water in big and even not-so-big cities on both coasts and at least some of the rest of the country.  My state (Washington) has gotten to be a fairly reliable "blue", but not so much when you get away from the poopulation centers.

I'm still trying to determine if she should be considered ridiculously tolerant, just plain stupid, or greedy to the hilt for sticking with him...maybe a combination of them all, not someone I would vote for.

Well that explains it. Spend a few days sucking a pay check off the tax payers working for an unelected person and you to can become a US Senator.

In reality they should follow the damn law and wait until they can have the special election.  I am sick of democraps changing the rules anytime it suits them (and Republicans who turn their eyes because they are afraid of being seen as "mean spirited).   >:(

They do that all the time.
She apparently deserves the seat because it is her birthright. Just like in a monarchy. When Todd Stroeger Sr. died here in Illinois, who did they give the seat to? His son of course because of his bloodline he was the obvious choice. ::)

Orrin Hatch must have a crush on Teddy's wife.  This says all we need to know about the Polyannic blissninny.

Orin Hatch once said Ted was good friend of his.
Now Orin has voted pretty conserative over the years but his choise of friends has something lacking. My guess is Ted used him like tollit paper and he was to ignorant  to know it.
He should have his aZZ kicked until his nose bled for backing a situation like this.

In one of the videos of the funeral there was a scene of Bill Clinton looking her over, from his expression I think she has his approval.

Slim, I would like to give him the benifit of the doubt.  I think had he kept his violator secured he might have been able to at least earn a respectable place in history, but I guess when you think with the wrong head you end up a looser.
