These quotes should tell you most of what you need to know:

Quote
WE HUNT ON A LITTLE OVER 200 ACRES. COYOTES AND BOBCATES ARE ALL FREE GAME. SO IF YOU HAVE YOUR CHANCE , TAKE IT.

Quote
THERE WILL BE NO LIVESTOCK WHATS SO EVER INTERUPTING HUNTERS AT THIER STANDS. WE DO RUN COWS ON THE PLACE, BUT THEY WILL BE PLACED IN A SEPARATE PASTURE AT THE FRONT OF THE PLACE DURING THE HOG HUNTS.

They have a mere 200 acres barely over a quarter section of high fenced land to raise hogs and cattle on. That means the hogs feed primarily on corn put out for them. I doubt they can maintain nearly the numbers the photos would indicate on such a tiny place. If you just wanna kill a hog and care not that it's a small fenced operation most likely put and take then go for it.

Not trying to stir things up but your statement isn't quite correct. Agreed, in some parts there are fenced in operations who do haul in hogs, but unfortunately in a lot of other places, the hogs are literally that thick on open range low fenced property. These folks put out the food to keep them there, hell I don't put out out anything and can see up to 20 or more at a time, and there isn't a person anywhere within 50 miles of our 100acre place, that is interested in hauling more in. Many areas are inundated with them to the point they will drive out the natural wildlife.

Cannot say whether the folks put on a good hunt or not, but to say it is high fenced is a little bit of a stretch, especially knowing how bad the hogs are in most areas. I also didn't see anything what so ever resembling a high fence in any of the pictures they have posted. Could be wrong, but as of last Oct. you cannot haul live uninspected hogs in the State of Texas, to be released anywhere else.

I emailed them and they said it was free range, not high fence.

If Texas has so many hogs, why do most places charge so much?  I am interested in this place because its the cheapest I have found in TX.  Most places want $200 a day (2 day minumum) plus a $1 a pound for anything over 100 lbs.  If I want to take my wife hog hunting in TX for a long weekend, I'm looking at close to $1000 at most places, more at others.

Here's my purdy little darling in CA when we saw a road kill on the side of the road.

They say "free range" you say? They also say they run cattle with them but take cattle out while hunters are there. Do you REALLY believe the cattle are free range? Now it could be the fences are barbed wire which for hogs would be effectively free range tho not for cattle.

If you just want to go shoot some hogs for meat it's likely a good place to go. If you want to go hog HUNTING it likely isn't. It really depends completely on what your objectives are. There is nothing wrong in my opinion in taking hogs in such places so long as you look at it as taking some meat for the freezer and understand there is no HUNT to it.

When they say free range, I think they are saying they don't stock it.  Based on the price, I would say that would be a fair assumption.  $150 for the first 2 hogs and $50 for each additional hog with no trophy fees.  I can't imagine these people paying to release hogs on their property, paying for the feed, and then only charging that much.  Thats less then half of what any other high fence operation would charge.  They'd be losing money hand over fist.

Unfortunately this is a result of two things, free enterprise, get all anyone is willing to pay, and lawyers with civil suits and litigation. The owners are responsible for anyone on the property, regardless of if they are there with permission or not. So it has made free hunting or cheap hunting more or less a thing of the past. With the economy the wya it is for landowners who primarily runn cattle, the drout in most areas forcing them to sell off most of their cattle at low prices, and such they are looking at other options.

Well free range here generally does mean only surrounded by barbed wire. Result of the cattle business, for the most part. There isn't much short of a mine field or claymores that will keep hogs out of an area if they want in or out even the high fences. Also your probably right for the most part about the shooting over the actual hunting, but even on a small piece of property around here it can be a hunt depending on the terrain and folage type. Hell in the back of our family place you would have to literally crawl in on your belly through the rose vine like stuff to even get in there. Then your shots would be measured in feet rather than yards. The hogs have it licked, as they can run through it with no effort at all, so it makes getting them out of it rather impossible short of burning it to the ground.

Either way putting meat in in the freezer as you suggested is a good thing. I hope you have a BIG one to fill, and get plenty to put in it. You won't be hurting anyone's feelings for doing so. Even with knowing where they are, and having protein feeders out for the deer, which they visit on a regular basis, I still have a hard time crossing paths with them. I wish the best of luck.

never heard of them and I live in Central Texas and am on the texasboars.com site everyday
not saying that's a bad thing
my hunting bud's dad lives in that area and says there are lots of hogs

to me, a "canned hunt" would be if it's high fenced and if they have a "guaranteed kill"

you may go there and wack one or go 3 weeks straight and see nothing
small property (my lease is about 200 acres) does not mean canned

my bet is the hogs move in and out and if you want high success probability you will need game cameras and pattern when they are showing up and be there before those times (and they should be able to provide that data)

in the summer, hogs usually go nocturnal, especially if under pressure

I can't recommend or warn against the operation
I would be happy to make some inquiries and report back on my gut feel
I do a lot of hog hunting on all types of places and have a pretty good feel for it if it's a scam or not

signing up on TexasBoars.com and asking if anyone is familiar with the place is a good call I think

Being from this area of Texas, growing up just about 30 miles west of this place, I can tell you that there are hogs coming out the wazoo in this part of Texas. Most of the ranches in this part of the State are not high fenced and the ones that are, very rarely have hogs. They kill them out to keep the deer population well fed. The $$ they get for 150 to 180 class bucks is too much of a cash cow to allow hogs to take over. But as GB stated, all farms and ranches around this part of Texas have eith 6-7 strands of barb wire or 4 feet of goat netting with 2 strands of b-wire.

I'm really suprised that they run cattle on this place, since a large part of the area around Gatesville is more suited for goats.

Hogs have moved in on my ranch in Central Texas within the past couple of years and we're just trying to kill off as many as possible to limit the damage to our hay fields. they multiply like rabbits and it takes a lot of ammo to keep the buzzards fat.

I hunt 104acres of family land, and we are over run with pigs. 10yrs ago we didn't have any.  I killed 14 with my bow and rifle during last year's deer season alone. Not counting what we trapped. And within a month after deer season they had areas rooted up in the open that looked like we plowed it with the tractor. Large areas, acres. Low fence, no fence in places. Pigs come and go as they please. We run a couple of feeders on the place, and they do concentrate the pigs' movements, until you start putting pressure on them. Then the most productive way to kill them is to know their trails, wallows, and watering holes. Like stated above, they breed at an unreal rate. You cannot hunt them and hurt their population. We've tried on several places ranging up to over 1000acres. You simply can't take enough of them no matter how much time you spend in the woods.  Large pen traps are the only way you can really dent their numbers.

I was once told by a wildlife biologist that you had to kill 98% of the heard to maintain a good population. We must be doing something with the dogs an traps as we have not seen as many this year as in years past, but then the drought could have had something to do with that LO.

Does not really sound that bad.  If I were closer, I would not hesitate to try it out.  My only issue is that it is a 10 to 12 hour drive for me.  I would hate to put in all that drive time and not feel like I was getting a good hunt.  If you go there, definately let us know how it went.

I am member of the hunting club at Reed Ranch (http://reedfamilyranch.com/). We have so many hogs that it is affecting our deer. I am seeing multiple groups of hogs coming to my deer feeder everyday and it is definitely free range (barb wire for cattle). The last time I took a buddy for a weekend hunt he got one Friday before sundown spot and stalk and one Saturday before dark from a stand and turned down an opportunity for a third on the back to camp.

Texas Parks and Wildlife and Texas Ag Commission are both asking us to just shoot hogs on site. If you have land around the river bottoms you don't need to stock hogs. I just recently put hog panels around my feeder to keep the cattle and hogs away from it.
