My new .410 Pardner has play in the action....

I just bought it new today at the sporting goods store. I properly cleaned everything and noticed that when the action is "locked up", there is about .010" play. I know this is no good for a rifle but what about the NEF shotguns? If this is not good, I cannot believe the factory would let a firearm leave like this. What are your thoughts please.
P.S. - I might add that there was residue in the barrel indicating it had been factory fired.

  Is that with an empty chamber?

   A round in the pipe might take up some of that slack.

Basically you have three options.  Shoot it, shim it, or ship it!

Is it an issue worth having fixed? Myself I've had a couple hinge action single shotguns that were like this, should he be concerned?

Update: I shot the gun at the range with no problems at all. It also patterns great out to just under 30 yards. At that point the pattern is pretty loose. I'm loving this little .410

H&R would fix a factory fitted barrel that's loose, break barrel firearms shouldn't be loose when the action is closed, if they are, they weren't fitted right to begin with or they've been abused and not properly lubricated,  a simple shim will fix it and work fine on a shotgun, they aren't too critical, I've got an old H&R that has no serial number, it's been loose without the brass shim I put in it almost 50yrs ago, it shoots fine. I've shimmed many high pressure rifle barrels too, but do a lot more work to fit the shim and make it permanent, see the barrel fitting info in the FAQs.
