About a week ago I took it to the range just to fire a couple of blanks to see how loud it was. IT WAS LOUD. I thought the people in the clubhouse would come charging out to see what the hell was going on.
They didn't. I then made up 12 rounds of cement filled soda cans using extra strong cement and let them harden about 5 days. This morning I painted them up with bright orange spray paint so I can see them down range. I went out to the range, max 100 yards, and placed a stake with a red flag on it as a target at 100. Dropped 50 grains of FFG through a funnel into the powder chamber. Dropped in a can and stuck in a fuse. I lit her up and BOOM! It went flying in the air to about 60 yards or so. I purposely set the elevation high, between 50 and 60 degrees because I like seeing the "shell" flying through the air. Obviously it came short so I just upped the charge to 90 grains of FFG. Set her off again and it came very close. By this time, I had the range to myself. Here comes a family. They were so impressed with the mortar! They loved it. We all loved the big thump of the "shell" hitting the dirt. Even wearing ear muffs we heard a thump and saw dirt kick up at 100 yards. So I went out to find the "shells" and they were half buried. Groups were about 10 feet in circumference of the flag. Some I even fired 2 and 3 times total during the session! Others were obliterated by hitting rocks and splitting down the sides from the impacts. BOOM!................................THUMP! LOL
Today was far better than any day with all my rifles and pistols!
THANKS DOM FOR YOUR GREAT WORK!
