Armi S. Marco Old Reliable 73 Sharps
« on: August 31, 2009, 05:37:36 PM »
I found a rifle locally, and wonder about if it is worth looking at. I found a comparable one on GB Armi S. Marco Old Reliable 73 Sharps in 45/70. Can't find much on a search, so am asking here. The pics I saw posted were of as nice looking rifle. Rachel

I looked at one several years ago when MS started allowing cartridge singleshots during primitive weapon deer season.  I went back the next day and it was gone.  I bought a Pedersoli Rolling block instead.  I think I would have been hapier with the Sharps.

I did just purchase a Charles Daly Little Sharps in 45 Colt and I am very pleased with it.  Light weight, classic lines and in my favorite caliber.  That combination can't be beat.  I don't know your intended use but if something smaller would work you might want to look at he Daly's.  Calibers range from 22lr to 38-55.

The guy has it priced for $500 OBO, and I already shoot a Marlin in 45-70, so I am all set up for a big bore

I believe model was a 1874 ??? old reliable; not to be confused with the confederate general from TN????
http://www.civilwarhome.com/Hardeebio.htm

Mine was NIB for 920 on sale shipped and all from Davidsons in March, imported by KBI PA, distributed by C. Daley; MSRP was 1190.

Picture looks like an older model, with rounded-up forend versus curved-down schnabble.
Also, the barrel collar looks sightly-less refined than the current Hartford-style from Armi Chiappas.

I found mine somewhat 32" muzzle heavy, and I even removed buttplate to see if stock was hollowed-out (it wasn't).
Maybe it was that Italian wood; some of checkering did flake off forend with handling in soft suede gloves :( oops.

The rear sight is also a bit different, but one may wish to add a Tang peep sight anyway.

http://www.armisport.com/ita/catalogo.pdf see page 26, part number 920.001, and page 64 accessories.

Hope this helps.  Oh, I see it now re-listed for 850 starting bid.
