Time to get those 4X4's ready for the long cold season. You don't want to be on your way to your favorite hunting spot and break down. :eek:

Just got done winterizing my Suburban. I have a bunch of stuff that goes to the garage till the first frost and we done had that. I work in some pretty remote areas and have had to spend the night in my truck more than once. Now when it does happen I live pretty well. I blow up the air matterss, plug in the DVD player, break out the munchies and rest a while before I even think about the chains or a shovel. Actually, getting stuck for a couple of days is the only way I get a day off anyway.

Dogshooter, sounds like you got it down pat. Hunting in Delaware is not that extreme. Small state not to far a hike to hunt. And no off road driving. A lot of swamp and if you get stuck in there you a there until something big comes to get you. I was stationed in Minot North Dakota and there were some days you would leave out on a days hunt and the weather was decent, but then one of those storms moved in real quick and would catch you off guard. I carried everything but a generator. LOL

I am originally from Colorado and will one day move back to the mid west. I want to move to Montana or Idaho or back to Colorado, but Wyoming would be nice too.

While getting my 2003 Dodge 1500 4X4 ready for hunt to Wyo I noticed my chains were a little short for the 275 X 20 tires/wheels. So I made the chains longer and added one crossbar. Nuther problem. Chains will not fit on front tires. The upper A-arm will not clear the chain side wall adequately. So on the back they'll have to go! In all the years I hunted with 4X4's I've never chained up the back wheels. Should prove interesting.

Same problem with my Suburban. Put taller (285) tires on it and now have no clearance for chains. So it goes in the shop tomorrow to get a 4" lift. Don't think it will hurt the looks either.

Truck is already too damn high. 4" lift would put me way too high. Like I said. It will be interesting. I have to be more careful when I buy a new truck. When these tires wear out, like next year, I'll put some 245s on it and really make that hemi sing with the 392 rear. Ain't it irononic? Hemis used to be 392 cubic inches. Now they are 347.

chains

i thunk they wuz fer pullin logs outta tha woods, or trucks outta a mud hole. as fer gettin ready fer winter--well i got to check that weather channel--i think it's feb. 11 at 2 am--spring starts at 6 am.
