Which bullet mold produces a bullet that both cycles well and shoots accurately for the 44 with Ballard riflings.

Afternoon Cheesehead..

I do not recall trying other then my 310gr LBT mold with the Marlin .44 I should still own, but you need to be aware that bullets with a long nose such as the 310, may cause a bit of a problem.

The 310 LBT shot very well, and is what I used, however, the long nose ment I needed to cycle the action slowly and smoothly to prevent the nose from hanging up.

It was a Micro groove barrel, and shot great with cast bullets..

I personally would expect most standard length and weight bullets to do well and will be interested to follow the responses to your question.

Keep em coming!

Our Marlin .44 Magnum (wife claims it as hers but it was gifted to me by a friend-admittedly for Faye's use) is not an 1894 but rather one of the few model 336s so chambered. It's a finely accurate rifle with lead and jacketed but it sure has feeding difficulties with most SWC designs. My all time favorite Lyman 429244 hangs up often in it. The Lyman 429640 is a 280 grain bullet that looks much like Veral Smith's LBT design and has no shoulder to hang up when feeding. My recommendation is to get a bullet with no shoulder ala the Keith style bullets for best feeding.

I'm not sure who all makes or sells such other than LBT moulds and that old now discontinued Lyman 429640 which to me is one of the best bullets for the .44 magnum ever made. For tube magazine rifles it has no peer other than the LBT moulds.
