How much does it move ?
« on: September 01, 2009, 12:51:25 PM »
If my scope moves 1/4 inch at 100 yds with one click adjustment how much does it move with one click at 50 yds. I just shot it a few minutes ago and it's 4 " low at 200 yds. How high should I sight at 50 yds ? :-[

Hold on there a minute. You've asked two totally unrelated quesions one of which has been answered correctly. The other has no answer from us. You must shoot your gun with your ammo to make that determination. Don't come looking for such from the internet cuz it can only be determine by you on the range.

They seem related to me of course I'm just a hillbilly. I just wan't to know how high to sight  in at 50 yds to make a good hit at 200. My old weaver chart says 3/4 " will put me 2.5 at 100 and 7.5 low at 300 and I did shoot it ! it was 4" low at 200 when sighted dead on at 50.
So I'm guessing 6 clicks at 50 yds will do the trick. Did you have enough coffee this morning ?

Yeah I had enough coffee and again I'm telling you that you CANNOT wild guess how high to be at 50 yards to be on at 200. Sorry but in the real world it don't work that way. If you wanna be on at 200 you need to shoot at 200.

I completely agree with other replies - don't try to sight it in high/low/whatever at 50 and think you'll be able to have it where you want it at any other distance.  Sure, you might be in the ballpark, but you won't be on.

If my scope moves 1/4 inch at 100 yds with one click ... and it's 4 " low at 200 yds.

The answer is related to just these two pieces of data. If you want it on at 200, and it hits 4" low, and it has 1/4 inch clicks at 100 yds, then you need to adjust 8 clicks (1/4" at 100 means 1/2" at 200).  Then shoot it at 200 to see if you are on.
