price question
« on: September 02, 2009, 02:48:43 AM »
On Monday I went to a gun store in St. Louis with my brother to just look and saw a 1894 in 44 mag on the shelf for $400 out the door. I hope that this was a good price as I bought it because the gun felt so right when I picked it up. I already have a Ruger Blackhawk in the same caliber so this matches it very well. So back to the question. Was this a good price? The gun is in what I would consider good to excellent condition with not even a scratch and clean bore and good blueing. Thanks for any input.

Different area's of the country sometimes will vary a price. Around this part,(Ohio,Michigan,Pa.) the only way you can get an 1894 any cheaper than what you paid, is if it's in rough shape. Most anything I've been looking at,(I'm kinda in the market for one), has been $400+.  So you did good. gypsyman

Seems way to high to me but sadly that's what they seem to be selling for these days. It's hard for me to adjust to the new ridiculous prices being charged these days.

Got a mint Microgroove 1894S with a Lyman 66LA peep for $400 cash private sale. Felt that both sides did well. .44 anything is a hot commodity in my area but I bought it in a shotgun only area nearby. Just shot it for the first time an hour ago.

I bought one a couple weeks ago and paid a little more than that, even after a little haggling over the original price, so I think you did good.
