Wonder lube and bees wax?
« on: September 02, 2009, 01:51:02 PM »
Can anyone tell me what the ratio of wonder lube to bees wax is so I can thicken it up a little to coat the maxi-balls I got from D Crocket? And by the way D, they shoot extremely well in my frontier rifle. Kick the bejeebees out of you, but they go  where you point. Got a T/C hawkins coming soon and will try them in it. Just got a flinter in 50 caliber from bigblock and may try them in it as well.
Thanks, Worm.

For patched round ball I would go 60% lube 40% beeswax. for maxi type ammo  50-50
I use old Zip from Dixie holds up good in the heat and works well in the cold
Built I only shoot PRBs

I was shooting yesterday in the full sun and the wonder lube was melting all over the place. Like I said before, it shot well (the maxi-balls)in my frontier rifle, but in my traditions it was to inconsistant to warrant shooting anymore. I think a lot had to do with the lube not making a good seal. Both rifles shoot patched round balls very well and I expected the same or at least the the same sort of groups from both rifles. What got me was that the frontier rifle has a 5 or 6 inch shorter barrel than the traditions. The traditions has a 1 in 66 twist, but I'm not sure what the frontier twist rate is.

1-66" usually won't stabilize conicals very well. The Frontier is probably 1-48" twist.
