I just recently purchased a sling from virgin valley to use on my Encore pistol. In regards to the wooden (laminate) forearm, should I place the swivel studs perpendicular to the barrel (under the forearm) or parallel to the barrel (in the end of the forearm). Also, I bought a set of swivels that came with two studs. One has about a 1/2 inch screw end and the other is longer. I figured the shorter one was for the forearm and the other was for the buttstock. The package says "fits most bolt action rifles" I did not know if they make studs specifically for Encore wood. If I were to drill a tap hole and install under the forend, it appears that the stud screw might be too long. That is why I am thinking that in the front end of the forearm would work.
Please help. I do not want to mess the wood up on this pistol.

P.S.- I was planning on placing the buttstock screw in one of the screw holes for the butt plate.
