Has anyone tried to get a custom barrel for the .224 Texas Trophy Hunter caliber.  Where would be a good place to start.

When I checked with Bullberry and Virgin Valley, neither one had heard of it. However, that was almost a year ago. They both offer the 22-6mm Rem Improved which changes the shoulder angle. So I ordered a 223 Rem barrel from Bullberry and had a Ruger 77 rebarreled to 224 TTH. I would check with Bullberry and Virgin Valley though as they may now have a reamer for 224 TTH. Do you presently shoot the 224 TTH?

I am in the process of purchasing an Encore and would like to have a barrel for the 224 TTH.  I contacted the custom shop at Fox Ridge Outfitters and they only have barrels with a 1:12 twist.  In order to stablize the longer heavier bullets that are loaded for deer you need a 1:8 twist.  They must purchase pre-rifled barrel stock and chamber it.  There are a couple of gunsmiths in the Hill Country of Texas that have barrels for bolt guns but I have not contacted them on the Encore barrel.  Maybe I can get some information on the Texas Trophy Hunters web site.

I'd bet Fred at Bullberry would gladly make you an Encore barrel in the 224TTH, and with the twist you want.   Might mean he'll have to order a blank to get the twist, and if he doesn't have the reamer, he will usually go half on one if you pick up the other half.   He'll do this and then add the reamer/chambering to his list of available chambers as long as he feels it is a safe chambering for the gun intended for.   FFT

One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus

Hey guys, it's just my two cents worth but I would go with at least a 1 in 8" twist. My barrel is a 1 in 9" and it may just be a barrel bullet mismatch but it only shoots the 75 gr A-max about 1" at 100 yds. The original seater plug that came with my 22-6mm RCBS dies was shaped for low B.C. bullets and messed up the tip of the A-max so I sent them a bullet and they custom made me a seater plug but I am still having some concentricity problems. However, I've been able to find a load with 55 gr V-max and 69 gr BTHP that average around 1/2". I have yet to try any other 75 gr. and up bullets so it is speculation that the barrel twist is the culprit. Anyway, this is a awesome caliber. With the 75 gr. A-max at 3650 fps sighted in 1" high at 100, it's only down 1-2" at 300. Good luck.

I went to their site and posted an e-mail requesting information on whether they could make such a barrel.  I talked to the Fed-X driver today,  he has a Rem. SS 700 that has been rebarreled to .224TTH and is getting great results with it.  He is using an AMAX bullet at 80 grains I think.  I'll post any information that I receive.
