« on: September 03, 2009, 07:53:56 AM »
i have a  CRKT M16 -02Z with the Zytel handles and the Tanto-style blade. Is this a very good kinfe and how strong is it? I have mostly all steel knifes but this one was only 5$ at a yard sale so i got it.

you get what you pay for , i had one and also a Benchmade of similar construction . if crkt broke/got weak and the lock would not keep it from closing lots of play in blade to frame pin. The Benchmade is still going strong , good lock and no play .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

You got a fantastic deal.
CRKT is very good.
I prefer some Cold Steel offerings, but I think most folks would say anything from CRKT is first-class in material and construction.
$5.00 ????
If shootall has got you worried about, I'll give $10 :)

You got a good deal.
Heck I'll give ya $11 for it.
As long as you use it as a knife it will work for you.
I have a few I did bad things using the blade to pry with and bent the liner or loosened the liner.
I have also used a smaller version of that knife to cut 1/4" sheet plastic from the wheel well of my Ford after I blew a tire and that knife still is sharp and works well.  CRKT makes good stuff.  My office knife is a CRKT Convergence.  It has opened punches of boxes and blister packs and has yet to be sharpened.  I bought three as they were only 18 each and figured I would kill this one quick and use the other two.  Ended up giving them away to friends.  I may have cheap crap for my use but will not give away anthing that is crap.

Sorry to hear of your bad experience with the CRKT. Generally they are a good knife. The M16 or one version of it is made to US Mil spec. I have three different variants and like them all. M13z?? is my favorite, just a shade larger then my others with a partial serrated blade. The steel is VERY hard and isnt easy to sharpen, but holds it edge well. I don't really care for the one side sharpened crap, but overall its a good knife.

Rio,
I agree, I also prefer the Cold Steel offerings too.

cwlongshot,
I carry the CS medium Voyager, tanto point.  It's a bit small but would maybe keep me out of trouble w/ the LAW.
I've carried it for years, no issues w/ the knife or the LAW :)
It's strong, but light w/synthetic grip.
Carried it hiking up Santa Fe Baldy, Pikes Peak, and lots of places camping and hiking. It's a good friend.

yes, the one and the same. I guess it's a good knife. Also if your looking for good deal just look around town. I have seen Cold Steel and Benchmade knifes sometimes for 20-30$ at Wain Robert's Firearms‎ (5400 Park Blvd, Pinellas Park, FL‎ - (727) 544-7935‎) or the Wagon Wheel Flea Market‎.  At the Wagon Wheel Flea Market‎ i got my big john copy and some good swords.

At Wain Robert's Firearms‎ i saw 3, one was a used  Bali-Song, one was a  Model 100SH2O - River/Dive , the last was a  Pink Mini-Griptilian Knife but this was back in july. From time to time benchmade turn up at the Wagon Wheel Flea Market‎. For about 3 weeks one man was sell a lot of cold steel knifes for 30$ or less. i almost got a Recon Tanto(15$) and a Trail Master (27$) but at the time i could not see a need for a big knife.

Wow.
Can I send you some $ and have you as my shopper?
Give you a list of Knives I want and see what you can come up with as a price.
I am looking for a Kershaw Rip cord.  They sell from $75 to 100 bucks depending.
See what you can find.

Oh mercy, you're killing me!  Recon Tanto $15???  Trail Master $27????
You could have tripled your money on those.
I remember the flea markets in Colorado - they were kinda like that - I sure miss 'em!
Here in Houston the flea markets are just chinese new-made junk and Mexican folks selling clothes and broken kid's toys they bought at garage sales! Sad, sad affairs.
Can I send you some investment money too?
Or you should buy that stuff and sell here on Graybeards - you'd be doing us a favor!

You gotta hand it to mcwoodduck - quick on the uptake - smart man there!

anyways that was back in july 08, they still had the  Pink Mini-Griptilian Knife last time a was down there and i have not been back down there in sometime. But if you look around good things turn up sometimes. Last time i was down there (it's 30 miles from tarpon springs) He let me have all the gun and ammo, guns, and outdoor life magazine for a .25cent a stack(50-75 or more in a stack). So now i have about 200 of those now :o I also pick up a used Bushnell shotgun scope for 5$ but i sold it the next day becuase i wanted more power.
