reloading magtech 410 brass
« on: September 04, 2009, 12:45:56 AM »
What type of powder and machinery is best for loading 410 brass.  I'm picking up my G2 with a 14" 410 barrel today and I picked up a $14 box of 410 shells from wal-mart last night and decided if I want to shot I'll have to reload.  I would love to hear from you about your favorite way to reload these Magtech brass and what size loads your able to get from these 2-1/2" shells.  Thanks, Mike

Mike,
Am I understanding you correctly, you are loading brass .410 cases? If you are not going to shoot skeet with your G2, your best bet might be one of the Lee Classic Hand Loaders. It'd be simple and inexpensive to pound out a box of shells occasionally. Load data is readily available on the powder manufacturer's sites. Be sure to use data specifically for the cases you are reloading. Verrrrrrrrrrrrrrry important! Good shooting,

If yer lading BRASS Cases, I ain't got no idea. If yer gonna load standard plastic and brass shells, I'd get a MEC Jr. Loading shotshells is easy and fun.

Pretty sure the OP means plastic cases. I suggested the Lee Classic Hand loader due to cost. Doubt that he'll be shooting enough to justify the MEC at about $100+. But-if so------the MEC 600 Jr will do the trick.

Magtech makes an all brass 410 shell that uses a over shot cardboard wad , they will last a few loadings , however I don't see any real advantage to them over the standard plastic unless your working up some oddball round .

I have worked fairly extensively with brass shot shell cases in 12 ga. Give me plastic any day!

Does it make a difference in the pattern of the shot to use a standad plastic cup style wad or a cork wad used in most brass reloading?  Torpedoman when you say you haven't had a brass hull wear out yet how many reloads would you think you've made on some of those brass cases?
