Doyou guys have gun bashes where you live?
« on: September 04, 2009, 04:28:21 PM »
Doyou guys have gun bashes where you live? For those of you that do not know what that is. This is it. You buy a ticket for $20.00 or $25.00 and depending on who is throwing the bash it will have either one or two numbers ( three digit numbers ) on it. It is all the beer and food you can eat and drink and they raffle off a gun every 15 minutes. To win a gun you must match the numbers they draw in order. They also come around durring the event and you can buy tickets for other guns that they are raffiling off. I have tickets for the sportsmans club I belong to on the 12TH of this month and picked up a ticket on the way home for another gun bash on the 13TH. The one on the 13TH is giving away $13,000.00 worth of guns. :o ;D Well my weekend is full next week for sure. ;D Dale

I'd bet you could buy and take home to drink more beer with the same money you're going to waste on this and still you're not likely to bring home a gun. You'll likely spend enough there tho to have just bought one of your chosing.

Drinking and gambling are poor ways to toss your money away. You seem to have forgotten you're not yet out of the woods with your financial problems and yet are ready to go pitch a drunk and gamble away your money.

In all do respect GB. The one that is only a couple miles from my house I might drink 4 or 5 beers over the course of the afternoon. That one sold only 500 tickets. The most I will spend on the other raffles would maybe another $50.00. Dale

It's your money and your life Dale. Personally I can think of no worse way to throw away money than on alcohol and gambling. After those 4 or 5 beers do you plan to drive back home intoxicated or have a sober person drive you?

I'm not trying to live your life for you just give you advice based on what I've seen in my 64.5 years of life on this earth and what it does to folks who go down those paths.

Well for $20.00 I have a chance to win a gun. Not to mention the food at these thigs is always pretty good. As for me driving home drunk I will not be drunk if I only drink 4 or 5 beers over a five hour period. I would be well under the legal limit. I do not drive drunk. Here is a list of the guns being given away at one of the two I am going to atend. They have a drawing every 15 minutes.

Weathby Vanguard Walnut 300 Mag.
Ruger M77 RFP stainless 243 caliber
Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 Mag 7 1/2" barrel
Mossberg 835 3 1/2" camo ultra Mag.
Marlin 917 VS 17 Mag. Laminated stainless
Beretta Tom Cat pistol 32 caliber
Savage 110 300 Mag.with scope and hard case
Horton crossbow package
Smith & Wesson 686 357 Mag revolver
Mossberg 500 12 gauge combo 2 barrels
Thompson Center Omega 50 caliber
Glock model 26 9MM pistol
Henry Golden Boy 22 lever rifle
Weatherby Vanguard Any caliber synthetic
Black Hawk 41 caliber Ruger
BrowningX-Bolt stainless rifle
Mossberg International over under
Browning Buckmark camper 22 nickel
Weathby Vanguard Walnut 257 caliber
Browning BPS 20 gauge pump shotgun
Ruger GP 100 357 stainless
Horton crossbow package
Remington 700 SPS 22/250 rifle
Glock model23 40 caliber
Marlin336W 30-30 rifle
Remington 870 Super Mag 12 gauge 3 1/2"
BrowningX-Bolt 308 caliber
Marlin 982 22 Mag stainless laminated
Remington 700 BDL 7MM Mag
Weatherby Vanguard stainless walnut tith scope and sling

That is 30 guns to be given away at a cost of over $13,000.00 It sure sounds like fun to me. ;D Dale

Come on guys lighten up.
5 beers over several hours along with food. I see no problem. Less than $100 for an evening of entertainment plus IF you get lucky a gun. Add to that hanging out with friends that have an interest in guns

Cheep entertainment

For once I side with Dale

Hey Dale go and have a great time.  Then next week you can say how you are close to repossesion or foreclosure or going to the food bank.  You remind me of my 21 year old daughter.  If she has 20 bucks in her pocket, she needs to spend 40.  Oh be sure to take your daughter too so she can watch for the cops while driving home under the iinfluence.  One beer is too may to be behind the wheel.  If it is only 2 miles away walk and then you will not risk being picked up by a cop who surely will have it in for you.

well like it or not alcohol is a socially acceptable and legal drug.  How many people would say, hey I'm only gonna smoke 4 or 5 bong hits and then drive home...I'll be okay    :o

You have to be kidding me!!! :o The event is 7 hours long and I will be eating there also. I weigh about 280 pounds and I certainly can drink 4 or 5 beers and be sober. Dale

;) Dale, They have similar things here. Du, NRA, and others have gunbashes, I am not sure if they are run the same or not.  I have bought tickets to many of them. Probably enough to buy a gun, but it is better than donating $ to some cause with a thanks see you around your reward....in my visits to Pa. I often see these events mentioned. About every small town firedept. will have a gunbash, with a bunch of guns on the list to give away. I am not sure how they operate. I never buy a ticket that I need to be present to win. I would watch the drinking and local cops. In many of these little towns, that is the only ticket they give a DUI. I would have a driver to take me home if I only had one beer. This is another law that is unconstitutional. You are guilty until you are proven innocent.   :( >:(

Around here the local law enforcement is a bit less agressive for such an event, of course they will never admit it.
I have a buddy that walked away from a PF banquet with a Browning Citori for less than $250. Knock the events all you want, he made out well

If it helps the local club sponsoring the event, I'll buy a few raffle tickets now and then and look at it as a donation. I've never won a gun at any of these events, but by golly, my son-in-law won a 30-06 Browning A-Bolt at one banquet, and a Winchester Saddle Ring Carbine at another.

I've won 2 guns at raffles over the years, a T/C Contender w/10''.357max barrel, and a Remington 870, 2 barrels. So, as far as I'm concerned Dale, go have a good time, as it's probably a non-profit event, and proceeds go to a charity.
I would be careful of how many drinks ya have, I can tell you first hand how easy those beers go down. I'm not to far behind you at 250, and if I'm in the mood, it goes down real easy. The one thing I learned in 35+ years of drinking, I hate waking up with a hangover. So I have learned when to call it quits for the night.
Around this part of the country, we didn't have gun bash's, we did have beer breakfasts thou. Nothing like a big picture of cold draft with your bacon and eggs at 7am on a Sunday morning. They didn't raffle off guns, but the entertainment was worth the price of admission.(at least till the cops raided the last one!) gypsyman

Beer breakfast is a new one for me... not sure I am up for it. The only time I ever drank early is when we used to go snowmobiling. That was 15+ years ago. I went last year and things have really changed, Snowmobiling used to be going from one bar to the next as fast as humanly possible.

GB and Hermit,

According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bong, a "bong" is "a smoking device, generally used to smoke cannabis, tobacco, or other substances", and http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/bong_hit says a "bong hit" is "The inhalation of marijuana smoke through a bong".

a bong is a water pipe the smoke is filtered through water.  A more powerful hit of cannabis aka marijuana is acquired.

Dale - Your a growed up man, spend your money as you like.  Nothing wrong with going out and having a little fun, just don't get drunk and get behind the wheel.  Lots of these activities in central PA  put on by firehouses, lodges, Ducks Unlimited, ect...  They are fun.  I used to buy tickets, go to gun suppers/raffels, never won, then a buddy talked me into a ticket his church was putting on along with VFW.  Won a Browning bolt action 300 WSM.  So now I guess I have about broken even...:)
