I would treat this no different that when my old boss had to meet us in a bar to get payed. I would have one beer and go. I do not drive drunk. I can drink one beer and be just fine behind the wheel of my truck. The law even says I am ok to drink one beer. From there out you are able to drink a beer an hour and still be ok by the law. So you see I will not be driving drunk!!! Besides that I live out in the country. I bet I would not pass 5 cars between here and there. It is on a back road and all the roads between here and there are back roads. I think I saw one state trooper in all the 7 years I have lived here travel that road. Dale

I have been to a few over the years and still have not won as of yet. I have gone with my neighbor also over the last few years and he has won a couple times while I was there. This year I am telling myself I am due. I did win like $50.00 at one once though. We will see. It is a week away now. Dale

Well here in Oklahoma 2 beers will get you a DUI if by chance you are pulled over by the trooper and he smells your breath doesent matter how long between drinks if you can not pass the test. The next one is the kicker when you serve drinks and then someone leaves and has a car wreck and kills someone does the promoter of this event have the insurance to cover the law suit. I would not wont to be in his shoes as the law says you serve drinks and someone has a wreck and kills or hurts someone you are responsable, This law applies to bar tenders and bar owners also. No Gun is worth the party you are talking about, Take a very old mans advice (75) buy a 6 pack get some cookout supplies and a bunch of flowers for the wife and have a cookout in your back yard ,spend the time with your family you will be money ahead. One more thing make sure you do not have a burn ban in place as we have had for part of the summer.

First hand knowlage, neighbor down road wishes he had not served a fellow that came to his bar, 1 dead and the law suits are still on going.

Exactly how do they know that you had 2 beers? It takes about 3 beers in a one hour period to make a 200 pound man go over the limit. It also takes about 1 beer an hour thereafter to keep you at that level. And, it doesn't matter what state you are in for those results to appear.

Coyote Hunter, the beer breakfasts I went to, many years ago, were put on by the AmVets here in the Toledo area. They started out as charity events for vetrans that needed assistance. They were always held on a Sunday morning, starting at 7am. A prayer was said, and then the festivities began. They had big wheels and card games going, with the profits going to vets. Well, after a couple of them, whoever was in charge, decided that girls in skimpy outfits would boost the revenue. Well, after a couple more, things went even further than what they should have, and finally the police shut them down. It was kinda funny, as at the last one I went to, the post had off duty Toledo police officers working the doors and floor for security, and around 11:30, they disappeared. I knew right then and there, the place was going to be shut down. That was almost 30 years ago. Don't think I could handle a cold beer with my bacon and eggs today, but didn't have a problem with it then.gypsyman

Been to a few "Whitetails Unlimited" banquets here in WI. Won an HR 20 gauge. Prime rib dinner and a few drinks. Spent 100 bucks and had a good time. No drinkin and drivin for me. All fun.

To me this drinking and driving and sueing everyone is typical of our out of control govt. I have had more friends killed by 18 wheelers than drunk drivers. Just 2 years ago my cousin was murdered by an 18 wheeler who was going over the speed limit trying to pass another 18 wheeler and smashed into my cousins vehicle from behind.

The driver of the 18 wheeler didn't even get a felony ticket. He was on the road in a couple weeks. These guys have killed half a dozen of my friends, and not one has done a day in jail. This dui crap is an easy out for police officers. In all the years I have lived in Wy. I have only seen one or two of the 18 wheelers pulled over: but a friend who is an ex trooper said they are involved in over 90 percent of all accidents on our stretch of I- 80. Something is sadly wrong with this country.

I would consider it a donation, and entertainment. I would also switch to drinking coke or tea two hours before leaving, and limit myself to only two or three beers total during the evening. Better safe than sorry. I know a man has to have a little fun once in a while, just be careful and don't overdo it. Rog

I had to fill out the FFL paper work in front of the FFL guy while I was there. He then called it in and I was aproved. It was no different than going to a gun store and buying a gun. Dale

We don't have "gun bashes", but we have something pretty similar via waterfowl banquets. Between $25 and $65 per person for dinner and an open bar. Usually we'll designate a driver (I'll often volunteer as in general I just don't drink very often anyways) and a group of friends will go. They give out all sorts of stuff though - guns, hunting collectibes (wooden carved decoys, paintings, etc). Usually though these require purchasing additional tickets.

It's kinda ticked me off the last few times I went though. They just seemed rigged. Seems like 90% of the items were either won by the people putting on the event, or by high ups. Last one I went to for example the guy running the "hi/lo" game was the one who "won" it. The town mayor won the four wheeler they raffled off, and the Mossberg 4x4 rifle they were giving away? Despite people buying just numbered raffle tickets for it, when they drew the "winner" they called a name rather than a number (and lo and behold the winner was one of the organizers) . . .

Would be fun if I knew they were running it honest, but that experience has just soured me on the whole thing. They're getting more common now though. First one I went to was about 5 years back. There was about 2 per year where I live - the National Turkey Federation event and the Ducks Unlimited event. There's now 8-10 of them per year here, thrown by countless little organizations.

Good for you! I once won a Browning sweet sixteen at a function such as the ones you described. It was new in box, gold trigger, and was made in Belgium.(SP?) The only problem I have now with it is finding shells. There was no alchohol at the function I went to though. It was a wildlife supper at a church. I won the gun for $5 which was more like $40 in todays money. If you have the cash to blow, there is nothing wrong with having a good time. Only you can answer that.
