Whats up with these A holes?
« on: September 05, 2009, 07:45:41 PM »
Got off the phone with a friend tonight and he was bear hunting in Minnesota on a do it yourself hunt.
He said that they had a nice bear come in and din not offer a shot at  1 bait.

He then tells me of the rest of his experience, He said that while stopping at a bait site ne started to get ready to go in and a guy drove up and parked and proceeded to set up a camp?? The guy asked my friend if he was bear hunting and of course he said yes he was, the the guy said that he was a bear hunter too and that him camping here should not bother his bait site( which was about 5o - 75 yards further in...???

Then, he said a couple of his other bait sites had some jerk come in and remove his trail markers and his bait site sign that the DNR requires, and set up their own bait site 30 -40 yards away.

He did not do anything about it but said that he would be back up there in a couple days to hunt again and write down the intruders information and turn over to the DNR.

I hear of more and more problems with a hloe bear hunters like this and can't believe that they do this. I even hear of bear outfitters doing this.
What an image they give the rest of us bear hunters.

Anyway I had to vent even though it did not happen to me.

I feel bad for your friend.  It's more than aggrevating to do all the work to establish a bait site and have all your work compromised by slobs.  There are enough bears to go around but it takes work to get to some of them.  Ah-h-h--'work': therein lies the major problem with slobs in the woods.  They take advantage of others' efforts and write others off, if they happen to be successful, with bragging rights among other slobs cut from the same cloth.  Encourage your friend to contact the DNR and ask for assistance in making some changes in his neck of the woods.

One time a friend and myself were running bait and were setting up a couple new ones along the way and we found a "good looking spot" and we went in there and looked and looked  and looked for any sign of someone else with a bait set up in there , we were about a half mile deep in the woods and decided to set up since we found nothing. So we hauled the bait in ans set up our site, sign, tree stand and bait.
Then when walking out we found a bait about 100 yards off the road, so we went back in and pulled our bait.

Ive also been on the side where we had a bait getting hit all the time then it quit only to find out while re-baiting the site that someone else had moved it and set up a 100 yards further in ( we saw the tracks of the atv where they went to the bait) It really sucks to do all that work and to only have someone move in and ruin your set up.

I hear ya!  That just sucks, especially when you have to do the work by hand (no 4-wheelers).  I try to hunt private land whenever possible for those very reasons.

Ya, I See them too but they are hound hunters with bad dogs. The others are deer hunters. I don't see it getting any better for some reason but I have noticed a lot less deer hunters in Northern Wisconsin. I hunted  north of Orr Mn. and was surprised at the numbers of bear hunters and baiters.  Anyway how is the bear hunting going in Minn. so far?
