Which Cartridge will fit ?
« on: September 06, 2009, 10:17:05 AM »
I have a Ruger H&R 32 mag.  I've been told I can also shoot 32 cal shorts and longs in this revolver.  Is this true?  Thanks

The 32 H&R mag will also shoot both the 32 S&W and 32 S&W longs but not the 32 colt or 32/20 Win.

In my experience with two .32H&Rs over many years, the shorter rounds perform very poorly in the longer chamber.

Anytime you shoot rounds shorter than the primary caliber i.e 32 S&W in 32 Mag;  you must clean the chamber well after shooting.  Many people have had trouble trying to shoot the longer cases after a steady diet of short cases.   8)

No problems with accuracy from a .32 S&W long in a .32 H&R chamber.  Many competition shooters use these, including myself.  Just clean the chambers well after shooting the shorter rounds.  Same as shooting .38s in a .357, millions are shot in PPC competition as well as millions more in plinking.  .32 ACP rounds are simi rimmed and can also be fired in this chamber but will probably not be as accurate.

My wife used to carry a Taurus .32 H&R Mag two inch ported.  Fine little gun, but after shooting my .45 ACP decided to trade it for a Mil Pro .45 ACP,  I used to shoot the .32 S&W Long until I shot bowling pins with it;  it would hit the pin and flatten out without evan penatraiting. ???  They say this round is popular in Europe as a carry round, can't see how? :-\)

now remember that they also have a 327 mag that can use the 32H&R, 32S&W short and long, but the reverse is not true.

LakeErieAmmoLLC:  Yep!  You're right about the 327 being able to fire the shorter rounds but as with all the 30-32 caliber pistol rounds out there the one bullet I do not see, that I would like very much to see, is a Keith style semi-wadcutter cast hard.

I can understand this slug would not need to be too hard for the 32 Colts and S&Ws, or even the H&R Magnum but would probably need some hardness to it for effective use in the 327, the 32-20, the 7.62x25mm and the 7.65 Luger.  jmtcw.
