pardner pump will not eject shells, please help
« on: September 06, 2009, 02:58:12 PM »
I have a 12 ga nef pardner pump that will only eject the shells if I slowly rack the gun. If I try to rack the next round too fast the next shell jams against the spent shell. It does this with unfired and fired shells. The ejector and extractor both seem to be in fine shape. Its doing this with 2 3/4 and 3" shells. I wouldnt mind this problem when just shooting clays, but when I was dove hunting yesterday it was very difficult to remember to rack the next round slowly, and I missed quite a few dove. Any help would be great. I havent ever heard of a single problem with these guns, so I think its something simple, especialy knowing that it will not jam if I do it slowly. Thanks

I've never dealt with one of the NEF pumps but I inherited an old pump gun with no name on it that had the same problem.  I took it to the gunsmith and he said the ejector was worn and was flipping the shells out a tad later then it was supposed to.  He had to modify one from another gun to fit mine, but after he did it worked fine.

Might be the problem.  Take a look at the ejector on the gun and see if it looks worn.  If that is the problem I would imagine you can probably buy a replacement and fix it yourself!

I'm not a gunsmith, but looking at it logically it would seem that there's a problem with the spent shell not being ejected clear before the next round from the magazine is fed up to the chamber.

My first guess would be perhaps the rim is slipping out from under the extractor when the slide is racked hard.  The extractor has to hold the rim when the ejector hits the other side to provide a pivot point so the shell is thrown out the side.  If the extractor doesn't hold onto the rim the shell would be pushed forward when the ejector hits it and then when you start to rack the slide forward the next shell would be lifted up and jam against the bottom of the shell that didn't eject.

Try racking the slide back all the way both slow and fast (don't start it forward) and that should give you a better idea of what's going on.
Like chipmunk said it could also be the ejector - maybe the tip is worn/broke or maybe it just was too short from the factory.

I would start by giving it a good cleaning and reassemble with a new extractor assembly and new ejector and that would be my starting point to retry it and test every way possible then if it still had problem I'd contact nef tech support.
