Well, with hunting season looming on the horizon, it is time to find out what the pump rifle hunters will be using. Also of interest is feedback from range sight in performance as you hunters prepare to go out in search of the trophy of choice.

My primary moose gun is my Remington 7600 in .35 Whelen. My Backup is my BLR in .358 Winchester. Those responsibilities will be reversed during the deer hunt. I have a black synthetic stock on the Whelen.

I've actually switched sights between these two rifles this year, putting my Holosight on the pump and a red dot on the BLR. I figure the 1 minute dot on the Holosight might be better if I get a long range shot at bullwinkle.

I don't shoot groups, so I can't really give you an accuracy report, but I'm confident I can kill a standing deer at 150 yds and a standing moose at 200 yds (or a little more).

Be using my Remington M760 off and on chambered in 30-06. Has a Leupold Vari-XIII 2.5-8 power scope and I load 165 gr. Nosler Ballistic Tips at about 308 win velocities. Sight in dead on at 100 yards.

Mrs Redial's Rem 76 in .30-06 has worked out quite well. It's not Camp Perry accurate but I haven't done any load development other'n to check to see if standard loads are safe - and the rough Remington bore fouls pretty heavy.

Its 4x Burris Mini is sighted on at 200 with 180 Sierras over 56 of IMR 4350 loaded to 3.30". Shoots 2 minutes on a good day. Big deal.

She likes it and it works. I'll probably borrow it pretty often

760 made in 1954 in 30-06.....with original buckhorn sight and silver bead.............Simple.........just put the bead on the deer and yank the trigger......Meat in the Pot.........as usual............very simple...........except for finding the deer...easy to carry........no sling or scope here..........grab the 760 and go

Knew these existed, never saw one before. Fella had one at the range sighting in this Saturday. He has a peep sight on it. Guess this rifle has not been offered for a while, as he bought his in the 1970s and they are not catalogued in the later editions of Gun Digest I have. Nice little rifle. Guy said it cost about $70 in those days. Accurate. Even had decent wood. Pointed well too. Anyone ever see these for sale? Any of you guys shoot these?

Years ago I saw one at a gun auction. Since I wasn't interested in the Dirty Gertie as a cartridge in those days I didn't pay it much mind. I do remember that it seemed to go for far more than I thought it should.
