Lifetime Licenses

Anyone else purchase their lifetime license this year...I plunked down the $960 for the lifetime sportsman, archery and muzzleloader tags...Stings a bit but will be a wise investment in the long run...I just wish I had done it 10 years ago...

If I were to wait until after 10/1 to purchase them, it would have cost me $275 more...

I bought the lifetime sportsman, archery and muzzleloader, too.  Ouch!  I wish I did  it years ago.  I know of 2 others that bought lifetime sportsmans.  I guess that the revenue from tags next year will be quite a bit less.

I am 36, and will pay for my lifetime license in about 10 years at today's prices. It's a lot to spend, but with prices going up, a wise investment for those of us who live to hunt and fish.

I found out yesterday when I went to get mine that my understanding of Alabama's "old fart's life time license" as I prefer to call it sure ain't what I understood it to be. Since I'm only 64 now but will turn 65 before the current license year ends I was required to buy a normal license but it has no expiration date on it. I'll never need to buy another but I don't have to carry this one either. Once ya turn 65 here no license is required just your driver's license I was told.

That ain't what I understood from what I had read but then I've found my reading comprehension skills seem to be on the decline these days.

I guess the life time license ya pay for here is only for the younger guys. When it was put in place I did the math and it was cheaper to just buy annually and wait for age 65.

I'm 46 and gonna buy it on the last day I can. Which is 9/30. Just annoys me that much. In my Aug sportman's club mtg, they said that NYS sold more lifetime licenses in 3 weeks of July than in the last 8 years.

I was looking forward to turning 70 this year and getting my free license only to find this year it costs $10 for the license and $10 for doe permit. If I get the Senior lifetime for $50 (before Oct 1) It will take 5 years to break even. Wonder if I will still be here in five years?

Well at 66 I still hunt, shoot skeet, fish, look at the girls and work-in that order of importance. I usually don't get extended warranties, life time licenses or lotto tickets with life time payouts. I do say "thank you god" every time I wake up in the morning.

At the rate that they raise the license fees, you will see that cost savings in under 10 years...It would have cost me about $96 for this season but I am sure that the going rate will only increase again within 5 years after the current hike is only a memory.  Plus, you will also save the $10 on the DMP application which I think is complete hogwash...Pay an extra $10 to hunt a doe or two...Jeesh.  NY State screws you every chance they get...

Yeah...I just came back from the Bank, Had to refinance my house to pay for this years hunting licenses. NY makes it tougher and tougher every year....Steve

I'll turn 65 in March so I've bought my last hunting/fishing license here in Bama. Is there an age that you guys don't have to continue to buy them up there?

The first amount is the old fee. The second amount is the new fees in NY. The super sportsman covers big and small game and fishing. Then you need a DMP to take a doe and a seperate fee for turkey. You have to reach 70 for a almost free be.

GB, New York State is great, c'mon up. If you get caught hunting with out a license, its only a $250 fine. Cheaper than getting a license. Just don't shoot a crow on tuesdays, wednesdays or thursdays, because thats againt the law. Some sides of the highway you can hunt on, but not others. Save a leg off any turkey you shoot and send it to the DEC or get fined. For a $10 fee, the state will let you know if you can shoot a doe or 2, if not, your out the 10 bucks. Hunting regulations come with an 80 page booklet. If you want to know about fishing, that booklet is over 100 pages. If you screw up anything, the governor needs that money. Its all about the money in NY. Now, if you have hunted for over 30 years with out a license and not been caught, you are money ahead. You have to wear boxers on odd days and briefs on even days or pay a fine.  Ok ok, I made that one up. Common sense is long gone and I miss it.
That will be 10 bucks, please.

I seem to recall our license costs $19 for hunting. Don't matter what ya hunt with or what critter other than waterfowl no added costs. Waterfowl of course requires the fed stamp and a $5 state stamp. If ya want to hunt in state run WMAs that's an additional $16. Fishing costs $12.

That buys ya three bucks (usta be one per day) and two does per day. Bow season starts Oct. 15 and gun season the Saturday before thanksgiving. Both end the following Jan. 31. Ya get five turkeys also.

OK, OK, OK...Don't rub it in GB...I get the hose...At least until I retire and I move somewhere else with all the other people who used to live here...NY is a welfare state and the working man has to pay through the nose...Heck, you don't even have to have residency here for more than a day and you can collect public assistance...This state needs an enema.
