Tell me what you think about my brand new 700!
« on: September 10, 2009, 01:19:51 PM »
I just had the worlds worst experience with a rifle of mine.  So bad in fact that i sold all of the rifles of that particular make and decided to start over.  I wanted a rifle that could take a beating, not need a ton of care, shoot tiny groups, and be versitle in the game feilds.

I purchased a 700sps stainless .308 winchester, H.S precision stock, leupold dd mounts and rings, already had a timiney laying around and a VXII 3-9x40.  Waiting on the rifle...boy i hope this shoots.  I have already begun working up some handloads!
I am not afraid to make an example out of you

I have a 700 sps 7-08 with a monarch 2x7 scope. It is the most accurate rifle I ever shot. For the price it can't be beat.

I've been looking for a 30-06. Looking at the 710 and 770 models. There seems to be alot of bickering over them. The 700 seems to be the best option, and most popular. Congrats on your purchase, hope to get one myself before winter.

You can't go wrong with the 700. My latest is a 700 SPS Tactical in .308 right out of the box it would shoot 1/2 inch 5 shot groups with factory Federal Gold Match ammo.

Congrats on the new rifle Joe! Let us know how she shoots!! I have a safe full of different variations of 700s and couldn't be happier  8)

Hooker, save yourself some $$ and try Hornady Match HP's, they are cheaper than Federal and you may ne surprised at the results. Or try their Amax or TAP, my 700s love it all. All barrels are different so results will vary but you'll save $$ so it can't hurt. Black Hills is awesome and also cheaper than Fed or Rem match.

sniperVLS Thanks I only use the FGM ammo for baseline accuracy.
My rifle has shown to really like Nosler 165 gr ballistic tip boat tails over a dose of Varget.
It groups around the 1/4 inch neighborhood with a lot regularity. I think a better trigger will help and either some work on the stock or a replacement. The Hogue stock is a bit wimpy in the forearm but it does fit me very well and is super comfortable.
