It was a great thing to share with a kid or anyone else . Now they know what can happen , will see the need to wear glasses etc. I can't remember many dove shoots that shot didn't fall on or near me .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !

I should have put my 2 cents in a while ago, particularly when I saw the comments about birdhunter being a "wolf in sheep's clothing". Glad to see the record has been set straight. Been busy lately and haven't been on here much. Anyway, I can assure all of you that he is not an anti. Birdhunter is my nephew and I have been mentoring him for several years. He is is a great sportsman. In fact, I think it is a credit to him that he called this out to folks. As many on here have often said, we need to police ourselves. I know a little of the details and although what these guys were doing may have been legal, it was probably not smart, considering that this was a recreational lake. They certainly were giving legitimate sportsman a bad rap. I would bet there were several antis around that also witnessed the behavior and we all took a shot for it.

but the antis didnt phone the cops for no illegal activity.  I would think the cops showing up would attract more attention than the shooting.  It was a recreational lake and umm last I knew firing a gun for fun is recreation. Are we supposed to hide now with our guns in case an anti may see us?

No it may not have been illegal, but it clearly was not smart. What I meant by a recreational lake is that it is a lake with lots of boaters and PWC's. And as I understand it, this was right near a public beach. Of course we should not hide our guns, but in this situation, these guys were just plain dumb.

however there is a difference between dumb and illegal. I lot of people smoke cigarettes which in my opinion is dumb and in the right situation puts my health at risk also. But do I call the cops when they light up?

If it was a public lake and it was legal why was it stupid ? That makes little sense . What would have made good sense would have been ( if the shooters arrived after others ) for the shooters to visit the others close enough to be a safety issue and tell them they planned to shoot and where . And ask if it would interfere with their plans as they were there first .
Its not illegal for a reason , like its OK to do . Manners dictate the cooperation between users . I use a public lake that allows shooting , boating , fishing , etc. even a plane lands on it . Some weekends hunting would be hard to do as the crowd is to big so hunters wait for a better day in the middle of the week . Timing is everything !

Manners not law enforcement

it is not illegal to shoot from a boat in ny, as long as its not under power, and you are not shooting towards a dwelling, etc.  goose season absolutely is open in ny right now.  just because shotguns are loud and kinda scary to uneducated people, doesnt make it illegal. the people on the boat probly didn't exercise good judgement to shoot around a vacationing beach spot.  it doesn't do gun owners any good to rub stuff in other peoples face and make them feel uncomfertable, however, being a gun owner, i would not try to raise a stink about it with the law, maybe just learn a personal lesson. the next time you would like to go shooting, just keep in mind how it may effect other people and always remember safety. guns can be dangerous when proper respect is not shown.  you win people over by displaying good judgement and maturity when it comes to handling firearms
