A 41.45-pound brown trout was landed Wednesday on the Manistee River in Michigan.
The fish, which stretched the tape to 43.75 inches, was caught by Thomas Healy of Rockford, Mich. Healy was spincasting with a crankbait.
If certified, the fish would establish a world record. The 2009 Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame record book lists a 40-pound, 4-ounce brown trout as the "All Tackle" world record. That fish was caught in 1992 on the Little Red River in Arkansas.
The standing Michigan record is a 36.81-pound brown trout caught in 2007 in the Lake Michigan waters of Frankfort Harbor. For reference, the Wisconsin brown trout record is a 36-pound, 9-ounce fish caught in Lake Michigan off Kewaunee in 2004.
The Manistee River is a Lake Michigan tributary; it enters the lake approximately across from Two Rivers, Wis.
