wish i would have bought a fa revolver 10 years ago when a friend of mine did, he got a new field grade 454 for what seems like about 750.00 unless i can find a really good deal, will probably go with a ruger bisley unless someone knows of something better in price range of a ruger.

that 750 bucks has probably has about the same buying power back them as 1500 does now. Watch the classifieds. Ive seen many field grade guns especially 454s go for around a grand used. Most have barely been shot as the owners found out they bit off more then they could chew! Compare that 1000 bucks to buying a new ruger at close to 500 now and sending it off to a gunsmith for a action job and a tune up and your right in the ball park of what you would pay for a used FA gun. I picked up a like new field grade 454 last year for 800 bucks so deals are out there if you look.

There are a number of Freedom arms that are selling for not much more than a 1000.00 on GB right now

Yeah, like Lloyd said about buying power...you have to take into account inflation. Still, I would consider a model 97 (they come in some very powerful calibers) or maybe a "field grade" 83 to save some bucks. You have to take into account the life-time warranty that comes with a new gun. The few hundred saved may come back to haunt you years later if you need a major repair. Also, I've seen large discounts at my local dealer when an FA is in stock and they want to unload it (no pun intended). Special orders can be pricey. I saved for years before purchasing my first...and it was really painful writing that check...still don't regret the purchase though. You pay for quality and service.

Life time warranty is for Premier models only. Field grade carries a one year warranty.

Greybeard is of course totally right on the warranty for the Field Grade guns. My post is proof why you should only believe half of what you read on line! :) Still, go for a new (in-stock) 97 (only comes in Premier Grade) and has a great selection of calibers to choose from. Just my 2 cents worth. Especially if you are a first time buyer of an FA product...it would be terriable to get a used lemon????

I wish I could go back 10 ...or heck even 20 years with one of my current paychecks...just to buy guns.

Seriously, as I have been told many times...you forget what you paid for something but never forget the quality. To add to what Lloyd said...how much would that Ruger cost if you decided to make it a five shot custom?

I just bought a pre-field grade era 83 454. Does this guarantee still work if I wasn't the original buyer and this model was the only model available?
