[serial number L81xx ]
I believe that rifle's D.O.M. to be 1964, the year FN/Browning rifle had a serial number of four numerals following a single-letter prefix.
Those FN/Brownings (Safari's, etc) were made from 1959 to 1975, and only two of those year/production/serial numbers prefixes like the SN of your rifle ("L").
Although a 1969 rifle "can" have an "L" prefix, it would have been followed immediately by the last two digits of the year of manufacture (as in: "L69").
Since your "L" prefix is "81" , it's not a 1969 rifle, and the rifle was discontinued by 1981.
The 1970 to 1975 rifles had a single letter prefix also, but they too were followed by the lsat two digits of the year - so - no "L81", infact the only "L" in that generation was 1971's "L71xxx" serial numbers.
