A 2 Year Rest
« on: September 12, 2009, 03:07:57 PM »
We are giving our property N/E of Del Rio a 2 year rest from cattle.  Actually a majority of the land owners voted to end the cattle lease on all 8000 acres.  Spoke to appraisal district, resting the property and converting to a wildlife management program to maintain our Ag tax exemption status.   Our place is so over grazed that it is bare dirt in so many areas, and the drought just made it worse.  Now there seems to be rain out there, and the cows will soon be gone.

Anyone else getting rain in Tx?

We've had 3 1/2" here in the DFW area today.  Some parts of the metromess have gotten 5", with more to come.

Early spring was wet, but then we reached extreme drought until the past couple of weeks.   I will be out there 2nd week of archery season, so hopefully it will not be so dry, and the cows will be gone.
