If I remember correct, SPortsman's Guide sells bulk Military ammo really cheap.   5.56mm (.223 Olypmpic brand) the cheapest I found is $132.97 per 1000 rounds.
             5.56mm (wolf) $90.22 per 1000 rounds
7.62X39mm (wolf) $71 for FMJ and $85 for SP per 1000 rounds

Cheap stuff

hillbill - please just remember that you get what you pay for and some of that cheaper ammo has fouled up guns before.  Whether it is Wolff or somebody else, some firms use a lacquer finish over a steel case that gums up actions.  And, a lot of that inexpensive stuff is mil-surp from who knows where and may have both accuracy and quality problems.

You may be able to save a few dollars but you might not be happy with the results.  I would buy quality ammo I could reload and enjoy some more satisfaction on the range.  HTH.  Mikey.

I agree 100% with Mikey, but those are the cheapest shelld in those calibers I could find.  I suggest buying some of the Cheap Federal Brown Cardboard Box Fodder and then realod it.

hey guys! thanks for the advice but..... been shooting cheap 7.62 for bout 10 years and it aint caused any problems yet a good cleaning wont fix. the lacquered cases wont gum up the action if you dont rattle off bout 30 in a row and get the gun really hot. ak,s have been digesting this crap for as long as they have been around. as far as accuracy goes either my ak or my 223 bushmaster will easily bust a clay pigeon at 150 yrds with bout any of it if you buckle down and get serious with the sights. this is good enough for me in about any situation. as far as reloading i do enjoy it and get very good accuracy out of the stuff i load for all my rifles but i cant justify  reloading shells that cost me maybe a buck more a box to reload than i can buy for so my 8 yr old can practice shooting a gallon jug at 50 yrds. do ya know what i mean? now nutting but the finest goes in my no.1 or my 77 or the browning or my win hiwall so i do know what you mean.

I like J&G Sales (in Shotgun news) I have had very good luck with them and they will usually tell you what is good and what is bad. I use SS 109 in my AR for std. ammo, and I load the stuff I want to hit where I send it. I bought 1000 rnd's of Wolf 7.62x39mm from them for $85 and it works fine. (in my AR 7.62x39) Pretty accurate to, no problem to hit a 3" target at 100 yards with open sights. Most of the 7.62x39 you buy is made in Russia, some was made a long time ago to, at least with thw Wolf it's new production. (If they would use brass instead of steel and change to a boxer primer they would be great!) A buddy of mine swears by the Wolf 62 grn FMJ .223 ammo also, $100 per 1000. (I pay that for 500 rnds of SS 109) I think the Wolf is your best bet, you could save something like another $5 per 1000 rnd's, but it's not worth the chance. Good luck!

hey guys! went to tulsa gun show last weekend and got a bunch of ammo. got some sapsan 7.62 124 gr hp laq steel case for bout 1.40 a box by the thou. got some fmj 223 55 grn for bout 2.40 a box by the thou. they are once fired reloads of mixed cases{all brass} havent shot them much yet but function good in the bushy and seem to be accurate. got these from a co. called houston ammo, i think. they were very pleasent to deal with and delivered all this ammo out to my car in parking lot. cant beat that! anybody else deal with this co.? the sapsan werks flawlessly in the ak and no noticeble drop in accuracy. i need to bench both these ammos but im pretty happy with them so far. the 223 rounds were loaded with rem or win bullets if i remember right and olin powder. that and their attitude kind of sold me on them.

Sounds great, good prices too.  My only other advise is to stock up on ammo you never know when the price is going to go up but they do come down too but its still good to stockup when its cheap.        BigBill

We like the gunshow in Tulsa, OK, don't we?  I only walked about 3/4ths of it myself.  Saw some Turk 8mm ammo for $68/1400 +tax.  AmmunitionStore.com was there, had 7.62x51mm South African ammo for $159.99/1000 +tax, but weren't paying attention, so I went back downstairs and paid $165 +tax for the same ammo and some good customer service.  Dad would have bought some of that cheap Saspan ammo for his SKS, but decided to buy another Mauser instead.  Oh, well, there's another show in a couple of weeks anyway, albeit a small one.

The deal at AIM surplus right now for South African 308 ammo is 7 packs of 140rds for 19.00 each thats 980rds./ $133 + shipp which is about $153 delivered to your door. For the guys who can't get to the Tulsa show.

The local gun shop here wants $29.99 a pack here for 140rds. same stuff there are no deals here even at gun shows its either a arm and a leg or a leg and an arm to buy this stuff.  Funny how most stuff is over priced at shows.  I find the best deals are on the net and mail order.
