Range report

Got out to shoot this mornin,was havin trouble with primers sticking in my MU breechplug with no powder/sabot/bullet loaded. I loaded 100 grns BH209,777 primer,Hornady 300 grn SST in a Harvester crush rib sabot.All shots were 100 yds from my bench,68 degrees,2-3 mph breeze towards target. Williams WGRS rear peep and stock NEF front firesight.The 777 primers went off all 17 times,no hangfires or misfires.I did have 2 primers stick hard enough it took 2 screwdrivers on each side of primer to get them out,interestingly those 2 shots also hit 2 1/8 and 2 3/4 " low out of group.The other six shots went into 1 1/2" center to center.I'm very pleased with the group,not so happy about the 2 that dropped.I've included a photo,not sure if it will come thru.

That sure is a nice group there. You need to find one of those CVA 209 removal tools. It is basicly a little fork that works wonderfully well by just using it like a pry bar ( just a lot smaller version)

So was there any blowback?

Nick,When a primer sticks I dont get any blowback,no blackened primers,seems safe enough.Now the Winchester 209's blew fire out the primer carrier slot,but I wont be using those! I am going to get one of those removal tools.My speculation is that I had a couple of 777 primers with a little extra priming compound in them,boosting the pressure enough to cause the sticking.Seems I have a primer pressure limit I dont want to exceed with this combo,what are your thoughts?

I noticed that you have a bypod. The swivel stud on the forarm is backed by the spring that holds the ramrod snug. There is not very much wood between there. I pealed the whole bottom of my forarm off shooting mine like that.

Are you using the o-ring? I ask simply because you say you are getting some spark outside that slot......... I have only seen that, when the o-ring is not in there. It will shoot just fine without it, as you have seen, it is simply there to seal off the buisness end of the primer to prevent this from happening.

Chris,I just stuck the bipod on for the photo,I usually hunt with a pair of shooting sticks if the grass is tall.But I'll remember that as I would have put it on for the upcoming antelope season! Thanks!               Nick,  I did have the O-ring in for all shots today,it blew fire out the slot WITH the O-ring in when I test fired the Winchester 209's with no load in the rifle.I believe the primer leaked around the inside of the cup,seemed like an awful lot of pressure for not having a load in it.I would have thought all the pressure would have went out an unobstructed barrel.But today,even with the 777's that stuck,they werent black anywhere.Make any sense?
