bullet dia pref, 44cal or 45cal pistol bullets out of a 50cal ML

are these choices pretty much a toss up, based on what your particular barrel may desire.  I would like to lean toward the 430 dia bullets since I already use those for 44cal smokeless loading.  I dont think Im going to try any dollar a bang ML offerings though.

Mostly shooting targets and one shot max a year at a 80-150lb deer  100yd max.

I think it may be a minor issue & I have used both. I have also read from guys supposidly 'in the know' that 45's tend to do better, if only slightly. If given the choice I get the 45 cal bullet with the appropriately sized sabot. I have never done any shooting comparison. I also shoot home cast 44cal handgun bullets in a sabot for the 50 cal M-L.

If you are talking about the Savage, stick with the .452
You have to have a real tight fit.
Aim small don't miss.

Try both but your rifle will tell you what it prefers.I'veshot both, my old Omega referred the .44's and my Black Diamond Xr loves the .45's.With the non-mag and mag versions in .45 caliber, you have a more versatile choice in bullets. If you like lighter loads shoot the non-mags. If you like the shoulder artillery go with the mags.Cant really go far wrong with an XTP!

The 240 XTP .430's work great out of my Encore using the green Harvester CR Sabots. I've found they group the best for me at around 1700 to 1750 fps.

For the past ten years I have used the excellent 240 grain .430 XTP to kill over 20 deer and many dozens of hogs-most were bang flops.   Used to use 100 grains of Pyrodex RS or two 50 grain Pyrodex pellets:  Now use 100 or 110 grains of Goex Pinnacle.   The sabot that I use is the short black one,  believe it is from Traditions.  That bullet works well for me.
