Browning Mountain ti
« on: September 15, 2009, 01:52:17 PM »
I' m thinking of getting a Browning Mountain Ti in 300 WSM.

Does anyone have a Ti that can tell me more about the performance, etc. ?

Any help will be appreciated.

I love mine.  Until I actually took this light weight rifle into the field I would have never known how much I like hauling a lighter gun.
The gun groups well.  But set your scope with cold bore shoots.
A 300 WSM heats up the thin barrel on the Mountain Ti very quickly.
Once hot the point of impact will change dramatically.  So cold or cool is key because in a hunt situation a cold barrel is what you will have.
Mine groups 150 ballistic tips better than 165 partitions.  I have another 300 wsm a-bolt that is a standard one and that shoots the partitions just fine.  So you have to spend some bench time and find out what your particular gun likes.
I have shot deer from 60 yards to 240 with success.  The 300 WSM packs a good punch.
Another thing is regular Browning a-bolt bases will not work.  You need to get bases specific for the Mountain Ti.  This is due to the titanium receiver is thicker on the front end than the standard blued or stainless a-bolt.
I like Talley bases and rings. They are pretty tough.
Hope that helps.  Good luck with it
