Stock bolts
« on: September 15, 2009, 02:49:37 PM »
Is the same bolt used on the "stanard" stock and the thumbhole stock?
If not, what do I need to mount the thumbhole ?

Thanks,
Nick

  Nick,
What you need for the thumbhole stock is the same diameter but shorter.  It is a 3/8x24x2" Button Head Socket bolt. I just
changed one out today and I beleive it is a 3/16 hex wrench. Sent you a picture if it helps. Fred

That info is in the FAQs like most everything else.  ;) Don't expect to find one at your local hardware store tho, they'll likely have standard socket heads tho which will work, just not as hidden.

I have an extra button head left over from the group bolt buy I made a couple years ago, it's about $4.00 including shipping, PM me if want it.

Got my bolts (3/8"24x2"),
Next question, does a washer go under the cap screw bolt ?
The counter sink in the thumbhole stock is to small in dia for a stanard 3/8" washer.

Thanks,
Nick

I've never used one, the biggest concern is the bolt being too long and interfering with the hammer preventing it from being cocked. Since these stocks are seconds, they could be too short in the tang area requiring a washer, I've used metric washers in regular stocks, they have a smaller OD compared to the hole size.
