tightening thimbles on t/c
« on: September 15, 2009, 04:38:39 PM »
How to you tighten the thimbles on a t/c renegade?

I had to replace the front sight on a renegade & in the process the ramrod thimbles shook loose from all the pounding.

I can't figure out how they're attached nor how to tighten them.  I removed the two screws on either end of the barrel rib, but the rib remains attached to the barrel.  Apparently whatever holds the thimbles in place also holds the rib to the barrel as well.

Any suggestions?

I tried googling t/c renegade & assembly  and a few other combinations but didn't get much that looked helpful.

There is a hole in the bottom of those thimbles, it's access to a screw. It's as simple as that. They are the same size as the rail screws. I use a Craftsmen WF #1 blade tip/flat screw driver on those, it's long enough and skinny enough to reach'm. I have used Permatex Threadlocker (Red). You can give'm about 15 foot pounds torque (spark plug tight) ;)

I saw the holes and looked down 'em.  I didn't see anything that looked like a screw head to me.  I thought it looked more like a rivet with an hole in the center.  That caused me to think maybe it was a hex-key screw so I looked closer and it looks round.

hex-key it is!

Duh.  It just got plugged with enough gunk that it didn't look like a hex-key anymore.
