Is the technique for hunting turkeys in the fall different than in the spring?

not much........almost impossible to overcall tho. Don't expect to hear any gobbles, altho I have heard Toms gobble in the fall. Most of the time by the time you hear one respond, it's within range. Many folks scatter the flock in the fall and then call them back. This works well as long as you get birds to scatter in more than one direction. Turkeys will always regroup in the exact spot they were scattered as long as they run/fly in different directions. Talking to turkeys in the fall can be a great way to learn calls for the spring hunt since birds are so receptive to calls and are willing to talk so much.

Now if your in a state that allows rifles for hunting in the fall, things can be a lot different.............
"where'd you get the gun....son?"

I would say things are very different, but I'd say buck has it right.  Bust them up, sit down and wait for them to come back.  Mostly you're hunting jakes and hens instead of toms.  I like a raspy old hen call for the fall vs a younger hen for the spring.

Also the will not always return to the spot you bust them.  If they all go one way, you need to go that way.  If they go every which way you're in business, sit down and start calling.

In the farm ground around here we sometimes hunt them in the fall by driving them.  It's totally different and doesn't fit everyone's idea of turkey hunting.  Check old threads, I've written about it before.
