Wacky security ideas come out all the time, today's wacky security idea comes from Firearms training systems. They have proposed a patent on a bracelet that would be controlled by an airlines cabin personnel, that if a passenger got unruly would allow them to taser them into submission.
This technology has practical applications for drunks, disorderly, small screaming children, anxious passengers, or the occasional terrorist, TSA flight personnel, or Air Marshals.
Todays Security has many layers, should those layers fail there is one last line of defense- the EMD Safety Bracelet, patent #6,933,851. Lamperd Less Lethal has entered into a manufacturing agreement to develop and manufacture this product for world wide distribution using our current technology and expert knowledge in this field. You can view the patent here. Some interesting commentary is here and here.
The question would be, would you get on a plane if you had to wear a bracelet that would literally allow a random event or person to taser you into submission. What happens if there is a cranky flight attendant and just wants the passengers to shut up? Air Marshalls would have to wear dummy bracelets otherwise their cover would be blown.
This is one system that could be potentially rife with abuse, because tasing someone with a heart condition, or other medical condition could be very bad. There is also some lawsuit potential here if a person is tased without due process or many warnings. Plus you would have to make sure that only authorized personnel could put the bracelet on or take it off. Then you would have to make sure that the bracelet actually works and that the battery is not flat
