Drill & tap tracker I

 Anyone out there that has drilled &tapped a Tracker I barrel to mount a scope rail, What scope rail did you use ?

As you have to drill and tap anyway, a Weaver 62 rail will work well with the Tracker 1. It will keep the scope lower on the barrel unlike the factory rail or others. I have a Tracker II that was set up that way. I'll post a pic later on.

spikehorn, Here is a pic of a #62 rail that I added to an older 30-30 barrel that was made by the old H&R company in the 70's and mid 80's. Hopefully you can get the gist of the picture. I like the way the thinner rail keeps the scope low as I use mainly 20 mm scopes on the newer Trackers and older style Toppers.

the area around the traker chamber is kinda thin you might want to bond one on

A 20ga will work fine, but the 12ga is questionable for drilling and tapping, H&R won't and neither will most gunsmiths. If I wanted a scope rail on a 12ga, I'd drill and tap one hole 8-40 for a recoil stop, then use SuperWeld epoxy to permanently attach it. I dunno if you can silver solder aluminum to steel but Warne makes a steel rail that would work.

it'll be a 20ga so all the threads ive read so far seem to say drilling and tapping isn't an issue.
