.22LR for close range yotes?
« on: October 06, 2003, 04:55:05 AM »
While dove hunting at one of my favorite tanks at the lease, I've seen at least 3 yotes patrolling the pasture.  With a few calves in there, I have been thinking about taking along my 10" Contender in 22LR.   I've seen them within 80 yards while dove hunting, and with a call and proper setup I'm sure I could get them to within 40 or 50.  Would a LR be enough for a head-shot inside 50 yards?   If so, can you suggest a good varmint round?

If you hit the right spot, yes it will kill.  But the target is small and any movement on the coyotes part could end up as a wounded animal.  Why not get a .223 Rem. barrel for your Contender.  This would solve the problem.  Lawdog

Ditto what Chris and Lawdog said.   Coyote deserves more than a very iffy shot with a 22LR handgun.   Take more gun or get some buckshot for the dove shotgun and call 'em in close.
Evolution at work. Over two million years ago the genus Homo had small cranial capacity and thick skin to protect them from their environment. One species has evolved into obese cranial fatheads with thin skin in comparison that whines about anything and everything as their shield against their environment. Meus
