Finally got to go hunting this week.
Day1: Missed. Shot right between the ears of a laying antelope. The rangefinder said 112 yds and I didn't believe it. I guessed 210-240. The rangefinder was right
Day2: All at 800-1100 yards. Couldn't find a steady enough rest for even a 500 yd shot.
Day3: Got to within 90 yds before I spooked them in the dark. I laid down and waited for the sun to come up. Tried a head shot from the sitting position and missed at 123 yds. Went for a body shot and she was dead before she hit the ground.
After she was dressed and in the back of the truck I saw 4 more at about 200 yds. By the time I got to a shooting position they were at 500 yds and across a FLAT field.
I low walked 2-250 yds then crawled on all 4's for 200 yds. The weeds were about thigh high and I was pretty concealed. So concealed that I almost crawled over a skunk
. At 3 feet away the skunk and I went our separate ways w/o incident. I got to with in 100-120 yds of the antelope. I didn't use my rangefinder for fear of giving away my position. From an uncomfortable kneeling position I landed a shot to the spine which put #2 down.
In case you are wondering - all I had were doe tags.
