Different T/C--What was it?
« on: September 17, 2009, 02:33:24 PM »
I was ina pawn shop today and saw a T/C handgun with a pistol grip like a Ruger Blackhawk.
It had the box and looked in good condition.
What was it?
I think the tag read .50cal.
Price was $299.

Probably a T/C Scout pistol, they made these along with the scout rifle, think they came in 54 cal. too, these are pretty popular and I would not mind having one myself. As for the price that seems about the going rate that I have seen.

And...talk about a gun that's a "Hoot to Shoot"....this here thang will rock the hollow boys and girls.  Dad burn it....now I'm goin' to have to get mine out and go play....and I already had a full weekend planned....you know...tree stands, trail cameras, etc.
Seriously, back when it was legal in the Old Dominion, I shot a couple of pretty nice bucks with my 50 caliber.  350gr Maxi-Hunter on top of 100gr of Pyro and hang-on.  I've never, YET, been hit in the head(yeah, there's plenty of folks that would debate this statement) by a recoiling handgun, but this gun has come the closest.  I have had it remove my baseball cap.  On ignition it feels more powerful than my 45-70 Contender.  :D ;D :D GOOD SHOOTIN', Walt

Thanks GB that is it.
That thing would be great to shoot. Recoil and lots of smoke, you'd have no idea if you hit the deer.
Sounds like the blood trail might be coming from your head.
Is it a rare pistol? Maybe something to add to the collection of other T/C stuff.
Thanks for the help guys.

It is not at all necessary to load it up to the level I described.......but then....we do know how "we" are!!! ;D   It is a fun piece of shootin' iron.  I wouldn't describe it as rare, but they certainly aren't plentiful either.  I'll check my catalogs to see how many years they were made.

The Scout pistols and carbines were offered from 1990 (I know that as I got one as soon as the came out) until at least 1997-98 I think (they were gone by 2000-01 or so for sure though).   I mean offered new out of TC those years... probably was many years later before they was gone off dealers shelves.   As Walt said not rare maybe but scarce enough that there is a ready market for them and it is pretty much a sellers market.   Price sounds about right for others I've heard of in recent years.

I went back on Friday to see if it was still there, it was.
The price was $229. so I offered $200 OTD and he accepted.
It is in great shape, we took it apart in the shop to see if the nipple was removable, it was.
Looks like it hasn't been used at all. The box is dirty but still all there.
If I can get some load data I will shoot it and let you know if I survive.
Thanks for the help.

Standard .50 caliber load data applies as I recall. These were before the days of pellets and 150 grain charges so I'd not go there.

Coach,

This should get you there and back again (safely).

Good going there Old Coach, you got a deal and you'll love it.  The whole manual is available for downloading on TC's website.  Beside the round ball loads Larry posted it has a good 240gr sabot load.  It equals a good 44Mag load.
The Scout Pistol and Carbine were available as complete gun and/or accessory barrels in .54 and .50 caliber from 1990 thru 1997.  .45 caliber was added in 1992.  Mine is a .50...wish I'd gotten a .45 and .54 barrel.  I see a lot more carbines than pistols. Good luck with yours.

Mine is a 54, and I am a little afraid to try a max load.  They are good fun with light loads and a round ball.

I have some Hornady Sabots and some 777 powder, I think I will load it up and shoot it this weekend.
It has rained here for 8 days in a row 15.47 inches. The creeks are up as we say in the WNC Mtns.
Thanks for all the help and I will let you know how it shoots.
