Dom will tell you send a e-mail to him, he has always anwsered my questions.  I have a 1/3 scale Parrott from Dom.
And it is 750 grains Max for  Blank  salute charge and half of that for a ball charge..that is 1F powder

     Gary, RocklockI has gone out with us three or four times now and has worked up a pretty accurate load with steel whistlers and has also shot quite a few golf balls from his Confederate Parrott made by Dominick.  I believe he settled on a load which is just a little over an ounce (437.5 grains), but I defer to him on the exact amount.  I just called him and he should have an answer for you today sometime.

yes i have a 1/3 scale Dom CSA Parott , it is a great gun . get the sights !

have you ever shot cannons B4 ? i ask because it matters ,how much experiance you have .

there are proceedures and things , powder packaging , between shot swabbing , on and on .

what do you  really want to do ? if you want to shoot long range ,you'll need certain things ,plop gb's out to a couple hundred yards something else ? blanks ?

In My Dom. Parott gun serrial # 120808 AND NONE OTHER i am comfortable with 650 grs of 1f . thats a load for steel ball AND sabot it got to 550yds just fine , as that is 1500+ yds in scale . 8)

the gun recoils back two feet . i have some video of it at montana ...but no clue how to upload it .....

for golfballs it much less ........300-400 ? it doesnt seem to make much differance as they are basicly poor projos .

Hi Rocklock, I will be getting a half scale Dom Parrott soon and an explanation of how you go about working up a table of charges would be helpful to me too.  I'm going to be shooting concrete cans at least intially and have 500+ yds to play around in.  Any Tutorial most welcome.

i am not qualified to give any real info on half scale ....other than the obvious start small .

as for a table of fire figure out what you can scale your bore to , match a similar cannon . but to the bore not the cannon scale as my cannon is 1/3 scale but the bore is 1.75 .

as the 10 bl parott was 3inches mine s/b 1'' . plus a 10 parott is rifled of course ....so its tables of fire is useless ..... i used a napolean 12lb smothie to scale work around .

Dom will supply better info than me . ;)

If you refer to the stickies at the top of our forum you will find a post called safe loads and cannon plans.  In the safe loads section you will find a chart for cannons smaller than 2 inch extracted by permission from  Matt Switlik's book the More complete Cannoneer.

Switlik states in his chapter on load development to start ridiculously low and work up.  Look at the charts and find you bore diameter and  the recommended load. That is a recommended safe MAXIMUM load using Cannon grade powder.  I would reduce that in half to start and use a steel, iron or zinc ball. Switlik did pressure test comparing FG and cannon grade powder.  FG gave a 40% increase in pressure with no gain in velocity.  So if you use Fg reduce the load more.  If you use lead balls reduce the load even more.

If you get Dom's cannon he recommends 400 grains Maximum-golf ball bore.  If it were my gun I would start at testing at 200 grains with some of the steel grinding balls Rocklock found.  Shoot at targets and adjust your loads as appropriate and keep notes---make your own load table.

Thanks DD, that is what I was needing. I had looked at the stickies and charts but it's also helpful to have someone experienced sort of spell it out as to procedure.  The book you referenced  doesn't seem to be available and I can't find my CANNONEERING FOR DUMMIES....       Regards, LSC
