Reload "charge" question Encore w/Triple Seven 250 grain bullet/breech plug lube

Before I attempt to shoot my T/C Pro Hunter 209X50 Magnum SS for the first time..need to clarify a powder charge question. (Haven't loaded/shot a muzzleloader in 40 years)

Bought a new Nikon Omega 3-9x40 with BDC. The Nikon scope manual says the BDC is calibrated for:

 "250 grain bullet with 150 grain powder charge (powder or pellets)"

Picked up some Hodgdon Triple Seven 50/50 pellets, Winchester Triple Seven 209 primers, Barnes 250 gr sabots along with some T/C Shock Wave 250 grain sabots.

From what I am reading..all I need is one pellet (50gr) of Triple Seven just to get the scope sighted in, then (2) 50gr (for 100grs total) to final sight and use for deer hunting? (a 150 grain charge isn't mentioned anywhere, and appears to be dangerous?)

ALSO: While I'm here, what is the proper procedure (when, how much etc) for lubing the breech plug on the T/C Encore Pro Hunter? The T/C lube looks like plain old "automotive anti-seize lube" , considering I already have anti-seize ..can I use it?

For the reticle of the nikon omega scope to work as designed you will need to shoot a 150 grain load (3 of the 50 grain pellets) and a 250 grain bullet. If you are that unsure of the loading of your gun I would suggest doing some research before going any further. Did your prohunter come with a dvd that you could watch and learn more about the shooting of your muzzleloader? Did it come with a instruction manual with suggested loads? I don't want you to think I am picking on you, But I wouldn't want to see you get hurt because you don't have the knowledge to safely shoot your weapon. You can also do a search of this site to get more info about your gun and scope and tripple seven along with the websites for these products. Please do some research and be safe. I also have the prohunter and the nikon omega with the bdc reticle and I shoot 120 grains of blackhorn 209 powder and a 250 grain shockwave and it is a excellent setup that is very accurate and enjoyable to shoot. Good luck with the pro hunter and let us know how it shoots when you get it sighted in.

Thanks for responding..you are correct..I'm "unsure of the loading"...exactly why I posted.  My "research" has been not been productive and the gun did not come with a DVD or instructions. I bought a custom frame from T/C, then added the barrels etc.

Your load data is very helpful. I'll try posting to a reloading forum.

If you post in the modern muzzleloading section here on graybeard you may get more replies to your post about the muzzleloading. If you contact T/C they may send you the DVD and a instruction manual for your muzzleloading barrel.

When I bought my encore 209 x 50 four years ago, I called Thompson Customer Service.  I was on the road and could not pick up my rifle until dusk the day before muzzle loader season opened in VA.  Thompson told me 100 grains of loose pyrodex,(They hate Pellets, I do also) and 250 grain Shockwave.  Opening day with Iron sights I killed two does.  Both 40 yard shots.  Not to bad for my first two shots from my new gun.  I put a Leupold Scope 2-7 scope on my rifle that afternoon.  I have switched to Blackhorn 209 and still shoot 100 grains but switched to 245 grain hollow point Powerbelts as they load so easy and kill so good!  I know guys that shoot those 150 grain loads but for me shooting in the woods never more than 100 yards, the 100 grain loads do fine.

FWIW: I hate the pellets too.  I use loose 777 and do not load 150gr and the Nikon w/BDC works good for me.  Good Luck with it.

My Encore loves 2 IMR White Hot pellets and 250 Grain Shockwaves, 2 holes touching at 100 yards.......
