Beatles question
« on: September 18, 2009, 04:30:24 PM »
It sure seems like the Beatles are releasing records more frequently than when they were a band. Every six months it's some new re-packaging of old Beatles music.

Also I never was a Beatles fan but as I am older now I do see they had real talent. I still don't like some of their music but some I really think is great. Dale

I fondly remember the Beatles music back when it was new. Perhaps because I liked it so much then, it seems dated now and I don't care for it any longer. I'm glad it's still being enjoyed, and also glad that new generations find it appealing.

That is like my daughter is hearing who is 13 hearing some of my wifes and my rock from the 80'S and she likes some of it. The thing is there are new kids hearing Led Zeplin and Pink Floyd for the first time and liking it. Like AC DC said rock and roll will never die. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Dale

A Montana judge recently wrote out a sentence comprised of Beatles song titles. Why? Because the defendant, when convicted of stealing beer, asked for leniency by writing, “Like the Beetles say, Let It Be.”

The “Beetles”? The “Beetles”? The judge took it upon himself to educate the convict in the Beatles. His ruling, which I quote in full:

Mr McCormack, you pled guilty to the charge of Burglary. To aid me in sentencing I review the pre-sentence investigation report.

I read with interest the section containing Defendant’s statement. To the question of ‘Give your recommendation as to what you think the Court should do in this case’, you said, ‘Like the Beetles say Let It Be‘.

While I will not explore the epistemological or ontological overtones of your response, or even the syntactic of symbolic keys of your allusion, I will say Hey Jude, Do You Want to Know a Secret?

The greatest band in rock history spelled their name B-e-a-t-l-e-s.

I interpret the meaning of your response to suggest that there should be no consequences for your actions and I should Let it Be so you can live in Strawberry Fields Forever.

Such reasoning is Here, There and Everywhere. It does not require a Magical Mystery Tour of interpretation to know The Word means leave it alone.

I trust we can all Come Together on that meaning.

If I were to overlook your actions and Let It Be, I would ignore that Day in the Life on April 21, 2006.

Evidently, earlier that night you said to yourself I Feel Fine while drinking beer.

Later, whether you wanted Money or were just trying to Act Naturally you became the Fool on the Hill on North 27th Street.

As Mr Moonlight at 1.30am, you did not Think for Yourself but just focused on I, Me, Mine.

Because you didn’t ask for Help, Wait for Something else or listen to your conscience saying Honey Don’t, the victim later that day was Fixing a Hole in the glass door you broke.”

Judge Todd went on: “After you stole the 18 pack of Old Milwaukee you decided it was time to Run For Your Life and Carry That Weight.

But when the witness said Baby it’s You, the police responded I’ll Get You and you had to admit that You Really Got a Hold on Me.

You were not able to Get Back home because of the Chains they put on you.

Although you hoped the police would say I Don’t Want to Spoil the Party and We Can Work it Out, you were in Misery when they said you were a Bad Boy.

When the police took you to jail, you experienced Something New as they said Hello Goodbye and you became a Nowhere Man.

Later when you thought about what you did you may have said I’ll Cry Instead. Now you’re saying Let it Be instead of I’m a Loser.

As a result of your Hard Day’s Night you are looking at a Ticket to Ride that Long and Winding Road to Deer Lodge.

Hopefully you can say both now and When I’m 64 that I Should Have Known Better.

Every other year a group comes to Fairbanks that does the old Beatles stuff.  It's called "The Magical Mystery Tour".  Michelle and I go, we liked the Beatles when they were popular.  The first time we went it was only older folks there.  The second time there was a lot of teens there.  This year we took Skyler, he is 20.  Sky loved it, had a wonderful time and wants to go next time they are in town.  It's a wonderful concert.  If you like the Beatles music, and you get the chance to see this tour by all means go and enjoy it.  Rog

I have a new CCR 3 cd set loaded on my ipod touch & all I can say is wow!  They are amazing.  The Beatles early stuff is pretty good.  I don't care for the later stuff.

The judge used a few song titles I never heard, and I used to have almost all the Beatles albums (on vinal ). I think the Beatles made some really great music, but when you examine their lyrics it's easy to see they did a lot of drugs.

What I find funny is how overlooked they are now.  Kids and young adults simply forget about them and dismiss them  with "they suck".  Wonder how many of their great musicians they listen to 1) actually write and play their own material and 2) how many would be doing what they're doing if NOT for the Beatles.  They've influenced about everyone.

I like alot of different kinds of music & grew up in and for the last 10 years have moved back to the heartland of American music. I'm talking about the edge of the Delta & Ozarks, a 100 miles from Memphis. This is the melting pot of Country performers like Johnny Cash, Ch. Rich, Conway, many others & the rockabilly guys & Elvis, Perkins, Jerry Lee, throw in the blues greats like BB King & many local greats. Yes,
Eastern AR, W TN & MS had it going on when I was a pup & with alot of the local greats like Elvis & Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee & others had a wonderfu blend of these styles. Sun records was the thing. I love this music to this day with old rock, Classic Country, old TX country & Motown as well. This is the stuff I like, like I said a variety.

The Beatles came along when I was a kid & I liked some of it at the time, but returned to the good soulful stuff. One of the local stations has a fascination with the beatles stuff for some reason, I quickly change to another station, just mop-head Brits to me now.

I grew up just East of Nashville, little place then called Hendersonville.  Today it is where all most all the music industry lives.  I remember when Cash moved out there, along with George Jones and Tammy.  Conway, and Loretta lived just across the line in Galatin and Goodletsville.

My folks dragged me to the Opry almost every Saturday night, once I was big enough to sit up.  My Dad played with Bill Monroe for a while.  We went to the Old Ryman, downtown Nashville.  When I turned 16 I got working papers allowing me to work in the Carrosel club, run by Boots Randolf on Printers Ally.  I played Tenor Sax, and String Bass (Bass Violin, Bass Fiddle, Depending on which crowd I was with).  I also worked as a studio musician for Monument Records.

I grew up hating Country music, and refused to listen to it till I was in my mid 30s.  Today it's OK, my son Sky really likes it.

Personally I like the Beatles, and most of the 70s, and 80s stuff.

I have never been a big fan either but you have to give credit where it is due.

I heard someone on the radio once, don't remember who or when, that took out all the music tracks of a beatles song leaving only the vocals. The tones were so precise, it sounded like a keyboard. Unbelievable.
