MS
You could move to Canada, close for you just across the river. Try there health care out and still visit the states every day. Your drugs that aren't covered here is because they aren't FDA approved. I've worked 42yrs good and bad times and always saved to keep my health ins. going and now the gov. wants to take it away and make me pay more for there way----NO! The key word here is WORKED!
The drugs I take are fda approved. The insurance company don't want to pay for it. When I get company insurance it's not long before I get let go because I'm costing the insurance company money. They turn around and pressure  the employer to fire sick employee . It's not  only the drugs I take that cost lots of money it's the ms treatments That I have to get.

I doubt if the government is your answer MS, if you stop and think about it, they are the cause in the first place for cost getting so high, they seem to have this thing where bad legislation passed years earlier leads to more bad legislation years after to address it....a big circle of bad legislation.
Government (judicial along with lawyers) are responsible for bad tort laws, it was also government that made it so we could not purchase our HC across state lines.
Reverse that stuff, cost is zero and five pages or less of legislation without the package being full of taxes going to places like "the funding for the study of pig oder" and hundreds of things like that.  We the people are sick of reading the legislation that has hundreds of things in it not pertaining at all to the title of the package at all.  If the government can reverse a couple of bad legislative bills from earlier, and show us the benifits, and show us there is nothing else in it...we might let them do another couple of things after that that make sense and match the title of the legislation.
As of now, I want them to do nothing because there is no HC reform bill on the table, only more taxes, more regulations and more spending and funneling of our money into qustionale places.  Business as usual won't work any more.  They need to be reigned in and they need to start over.

Anything they pass won't help you at all, and if it does, a certain amount of us will be thrown under the bus with this bad legislation.  We all want some reform.  The majority of us do not want the "extra things" in their legislation.  There is no more money for that foolishness, and it will take us a long time to reverse the things already passed if true conservatives ever do take the majority again.  Which might not be possible anyway.  Bottom line is there is no more room for foolishness, and thinking that government with their track record will help any of us is a real stretch of anyones imagination.

I simply don't have anything left in my paychecks to flip this bill for anyone...I'm tapped out.  And if I'm tapped out, so is your government, they had nothing to begin with except what they took from me.  They spent it unwisely.  And are about to again.

I'm living a pipe dream as well.  Dreaming about the American people replacing about 325 members of congress over the next two elections.
We can dream can't we?

I consdider the remark about MS just moving to Canada a cheap shot.
not only cheap BTW but not likely to happen because Immigration policy would not allow him to come.

Yet, if MS was a Canadian, seeking immigration to the U.S.A., the U.S.A. would no doubt welcome him with open arms.

But BBF, please elaborate on why MS would be rejected by Canada. I'm thinking it's because he has a health problem that the Canadian insurance institute would not want to deal with?

I should point out that people with expensive medical conditions are the ones that perish and are denied care in the other socialist countries that have socialized medicine. They are made to feel guilty about their conditions and that they are a burden on society.

Questor please don't encourage MS to move to MN, we are burdened enough. Down here In Watonwan county the budget for the welfare office exceeds the combined budget of every other sevice in the county. I am already providing for enough parasites, I don't need another.

Might want to have the county revise their website to reflect that.

While I can emphathize with your situation you do I hope understand that it truly is not the responsibility of the rest of the country to care for you. Cruel, sure I guess so but fact nevertheless. That's what's wrong with this country today we're trying to be the handout king of the world. Charity has its place but that place is not the government.

I agree with your statement . I don't want a free ride just a fair ride from the insurance company. The government plan will not be free neither.

In reference to calling some people "rag heads", we should be more accurate.  That little thing they wear is more like a little sheet.  So we should call them little sheet heads.

Canada* has a Point system and Categories for Immigrants
( excluding refugees) that considers, age, marital status, education, skills and health. There is no such thing as an Insurance Institute in Canada, at least I have never heard of it.

* similar as New Zealand and Australia and probably others.

As far as the scenario of MS being a Canadian and getting free treatment in the US. I doubt it very much. Canadians must get permission from their Provincial Health Care Office for treatment outside Canada if they wish to have it paid, otherwise it comes out of your own pocket or the Travel Insurance you hopefully had enough sense to get which will probably not cover or is limited for previous conditions

Canada does accept refugees. People claiming to be so will be be subject to an inquiry to see if their claim is legit.

I have been watching Lou Dobbs report on HC in different countries which ran about a week ago. Canada's system isn't the best, considering the amount of people we got we are doing OK. The Govt does not  decide who gets what treatment. It is up to the MD's.
There are holes in the system, of course and that could depend on your location. I can also tell you that folks in remote locations and we have a number of those :) will get airlifted from their location and brought into a hospital that can look after them at no cost to them and this is not a rare situation.

Canada's HC is a "Motherhood and Aple Pie" situation. No politician is going to mess with it.

Your question if Canadians get reimbursed for treatment in the US I can only tell you that if this service was approved by the Provincial HC dept. they will pay the hospital directly and the patient hasn't got to come up with the $ himself. You can be sure that the amount of the costs will have been "negotiated" between Canada and the US hospital.

FYI The cost of buying travel insurance to the US or other places is a Tax deductible item.

Good info BBF, but the scenario was if MS was a Canadian citizen and he wanted to immigrate to the U.S. and become a U.S. citizen, not a Canadian seeking free health care from the U.S. I'm thinking the U.S. would take him as a citizen with open arms as long as he went through the legal and proper immigration channels. You said that Canada would reject him the other way around.

To be honest BBF, I'm not sure. I did a little searching and I'm finding that it might indeed be harder to immigrate to the U.S than I previously thought. In fact, one source claimed that folks from Canada were excluded from the Diversity Lottery (one of the four most common ways of obtaining an immigrant visa) in 2008 because Canada has been over-represented in terms of people immigrating to the U.S in the past.

Just a possibility ms - perhaps you should look into mail ordering in large quantities?  I take medication for gout (allopurinol and cholchicine) and I've found that if I mail order my medication in large enough quantities (usually about a year and a half's supply at a time) that even coming completely out of pocket it's cheaper than what it would be with my insurance - and I've got pretty good insurance (government employee - the salary might stink but the insurance is top notch).  The orders are usually filled by foreign pharmacies, but it's normally India which has a very good pharmaceutical industry.

Well....
Is the military not government?
I work for the largest public utility in the nation which has the highest reliability rating with the lostest cost of power in the southeast.  It is government and it is beating the hell out of all the private utilities.
I get tired of hearing the BS that government can’t do a better job when I know better.

Would that be hydroelectric?  If so, you aren't factoring in the HUGE amounts of TAX dollars that went into building the dams.  Sure is "cheaper" when someone else pays for the infastructure.   ::)

True, but do you know that MOST hydroelectric energy in this country is produced by river systems that are managed by the GOVERNMENT!!!  So, your tax dollars are paying private utilities to make money from YOU!!.  So, you pay twice.  For the record the public utility I work for does this (manage the river system) with zero tax dollars.  Matter of fact no tax dollars are used for any operations other than environmental research.

Also, the military is doing a fine job of protecting my and your ass from alot of sorry people in this world.  So don't tell me government can't do a good job because I KNOW BETTER.
