Yes indeed they are. Many knock them but I suspect mostly those who've not really used them. With a 30" barrel it will either have screw in choke tubes or will be FULL choke certainly not my favorite choice for any use other than handicap trap shooting.

would probably try to find another bbl if it was full choke only and maybe something shorter.

My preference on 1100 and 11-87 barrels is 26" with choke tubes. For trap shooting tho I want a 30" but still prefer tubes in it as ya just don't need full choke until you get out around the 25 yard line in handicap trap. For turkeys I like a bit tighter still than full so again tubes are the way to go.

There are those that will disparage an 1100 but I'm a fan, have several and one is over 50 years old and still shooting. Sounds like a sure enough duck/goose gun to me! Even if it has chokes a thirty inch barrel is a waterfoul gun in my book. get the 26" to go with it with rem chokes!

They are absolutely great shotguns.  I have owned mine for 39 years and love it.  I made it my safe queen when I picked up a utilitarian 870 that I turned into a slug gun and then had to open the safe again so I would have the 1100 for small game.  Mine has never failed me.

I have a 1100 mag with 30" barrel that was purchased in 1977.  I used to shoot oo and 000 buckshot in it.  It will also pattern a Federal 2oz load of #6 lead shot better than any turkey tube I've ever seen.  I've paddled a boat with it, fallen overboard with it, and used it a lot.  It only works with 3" shell so forget the trap idea for the 30" tube, but it is a good dependable gun.  I also have a 26" IC barrel and a 28" Hastings barrel with choke tubes.

I have one I bought this summer used that is an 1100 in 3'' magnum. It has a 30'' full choke barrel and will cycle the heavy loads only. But if you are shooting singles trap it works fine with light loads because you only shoot one shell at a time.If you want to shoot and cycle light loads just pick up a 2 3/4'' barrel for it, the the extra gas hole in the 2 3/4'' barrel is the only difference between them.I put a 2 3/4'' slug barrel on mine for the deer season.Buy that gun and pick up a few barrels at gun shows and shops and you got a real useful tool.
